We were linked with him back in Jan and I thought we had no chance given the other clubs that were meant to be after him. Could this be what Bill was referring to when he said we'd surprise a few people with the players we manager to get?

If you allow for the fact that at least one of Smith and Fredericks will be gone in 12 months time, that's a defence built for the future.
