Gary O'Neil

Are TS that reliable though ?

They say a lot of stuff that doesn’t happen .

Sure be another manager with connections to Jorge Mendes .

Wolves would be keen to speak to Gary O’Neil with regard to replacing Julen Lopetegui should the Spaniard decide to walk away from Molineux.

Lopetegui has criticised the clubs lack of spending during this summer’s window and has cut a frustrated figure over the last few weeks as he looks to build on their 13th-place finish last season.

Lopetegui has also seen a number of the clubs best players leave during this summer, with Wolves have been under huge pressure this to reduce the wage bill and comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Gary O’Neil has been out of work since being sacked by Bournemouth in June but has been linked with a host of jobs over the summer.

The 40-year-old kept the Cherries in the Premier League against all the odds, racking up 39 points and finishing 15th, but despite that achievement he was shown the door at the Vitality Stadium.

The Wolves hierarchy believe O’Neil could do a similar job with limited funds at Molineux and provide a much-needed morale boost for the Midlands side.

Talks continue with Lopetegui at Wolves, he could still take charge of their first game of the new Premier League season against Manchester United, but the club are thinking about the future and don’t want to get caught out.

We'll see but I think he'd be making a mistake to take it. Looked to me that he needed some time in the Chanpionship to learn the trade more, and find a way within his system to attack teams. Not sure how long Wolves fans would put up with his approach before they turned on him.

I like how he might now be the go to guy for PL clubs with no money to spend but I would argue that our January spending probably turned our season around, so it’s not as if he has a track record for doing well with next to no spend.
Drawing 38 games a season is a) unlikely and b) probably still not enough to avoid relegation.

But I think he would take the job if offered, even if failure would set his career back a fair bit.

Can’t see him turning down a PL job and if he takes it, he could end up doing us a favour in the process ;)

... and this is the problem he faces and faced with us... As a manager, you can't turn down a PL club if offered as he'll be seen as lacking ambition... he'd be better just saying he wants some time out and finding a job himself as opposed to being approached...

The problem for Gary is he doesn't have a 2nd in command or a team, he'd be on his own with an unknown backroom team

Could be seen as a positive for some clubs, fewer wages to pay whilst employed and fewer contracts to pay off when sacked.

The new allardyce/pulis perhaps.

I'm not sure I'd be overly impressed by my pl club appointing him tbh, but in the same way most of us were positive about Parker appointment, not sure how much the wider footballing world know about his preferred style? Particularly given the general feeling that he was hard done by by us replacing him after last season.

Either way, unless he made a complete mess of it, he'd still get a decent championship job if sacked from wolves. So it's a no brainer if he is offered it imo. Have to the best offer when it's on the plate.

He could talk say he wants to learn his trade in the championship, but if he fails there next, he'd likely be looking at league 1 after.

Reckon GON would still be here if he hadn’t fcked about with the last 4 games of the season.
Starting Mepham at right back. Pairing Zabaryni with Kelly for one of them. Moving Kelly to left back and dropping Vina.
Was really odd.
Fine if you are certain of your job and there aren’t about 5 places you could move up, but not when you are essentially still in your probation period. Made him look a bit clueless.

Perhaps, but I think the board were on the look out for a certain type of managerand he would have gone regardless tbh... they were just waiting for one of top targets to become available. Just imo of course.

Yeah you’re probably right. Might have given them so food for thought though if we had got something from those 4 games. Palace was particularly awful. Would certainly have made a few more people question sacking him if we had got another 6 or so points, but in the end, with the way the season ended sacking him was welcomed by most.

Some of the changes, maybe experimentation, did smack of GON feeling fairly secure in place. Having done the job asked.

We'll never know whether Bill and already made up his mind for a change and put feelers out. But certainly think, looking at the rotation at Palace and Everton etc, GON didn't see it coming. Harsh maybe.
