Rational thinking

Time for some rational thinking and clear heads.

Yes we are all a bit disappointed with how it went today and only on 1 point after 3 games. But there are plenty of reasons to be positive with our outlook and here's my thoughts as to why we will finish comfortably in mid table.

- we are a team with new players bedding in and it always takes a bit of time. This will happen soon enough.

- same with our new manager. Players will learn his desired style of play and he will learn about this group of players strengths and weaknesses.

- we are fortunate that this season the quality of the prem is not as great as in other seasons. As a result of this we have a bit more leeway with points 1 & 2 above.

- we have players still to be available who will strengthen our side when they are. A mix of proven scorers in this league and exciting new potential.

- our start has been particularly hard fixtures-wise. No getting away from it, we will play less good teams after these first 9 games, which is helpful as we should have become a better team by the time we do.

I do think we could do with another forward and if this Daka talk comes to fruition I think that will be good business. He's pacey, direct and knows where the back of the net is. Semenyo showing he can be an option up top also and Solanke will need to up his game. But I'm confident he can and his form will pick up.

Anyway, as the thread says, time for some cool heads and rational thinking. The future is still very positive after just 3 games.

As I stated earlier in the week. As soon as Spurs took the lead all they had to do was see the game out as we had the square root of zero up front to hurt them and do not possess the skill, pace and drive to open up quality defences or any other kind of defence for that matter. They just had a 'jolly' on the South coast today as they did not have to break out of second gear. We could not not hit an Elephants backside with a tennis racket.

Also just to be clear to all who might read this.....my post is about the season ahead and not in relation to today's game specifically (there are other threads for this). I welcome debate and opinions on this and hopefully we can have a meaningful discussion.

The future is positive is it? Presumably you aware that we have only taken 1 point out of 9 and we are persistently fielding an under strength side with players missing that are unlikely to return any time soon!

I ask you again:

Players missing is what it is; no point moaning about it as much as you do. Best we can do is go with what we got until they get back.

What exactly do you expect to happen?

It's like this:

"But we should have a cure for cancer now! What's the point of living if we don't even have a cure for this disease?! There's just no point to it all, we might as well give up now. I don't care what might happen in the future and the advances that are being made, that's no good to humanity now is it?!"

Absolutely nothing! But there are many who expect us to pick up results with an under strength eleven. This is the PL and nothing will change until key players return to the pitch.

There are many who actually want us to pick up points, and go to football with some hope and belief in the team.
With respect, I agree. I want us to pick up points also. But there is no point in having hope and belief when you do not have the tools to do the job i.e. key players missing from the pitch.

Anybody with half a footballing brain can see a mile off that we will get turned over at Brentford.

yeah ok. So now you don't need to tell us your Brentford predictions for the next seven days.

Again, just for extra clarity to those who may not have got the point of this thread just yet.

It's about the entire season ahead, and there is specific reference to the period post the first 9 games.

Any opinions or debate in relation to the content of this thread very welcome.

You might have expected a team that survived against all the odds last season...would go into August with some Verve and Vitality, swagger even , knowing that they are better than many predicted them to be .
And here we are ..fresh start...fresh manager and style even....but we let West Ham and Spurs dictate the happenings in our own fortress.

This isnt so much about the players abilities as it is about Mentality. Sorry but I know I'm right !

Aren’t you just that boring tw@t schminto or whatever you were called, under a new name, and who just posted pathologically negative defeat predictions on here and the echo site for about 5 seasons straight when we were in the premier league? If you are, good to have one of the most spectacularly boring people in the world back here so we can all feel better about ourselves.

Interesting point New Old Cherry, thanks for posting it. Mentality. I hadn't considered that in my thoughts for the season ahead but I probably should have.

I believe our players do have the right mentality, but it will be tested over the next month or so. The task of our management team is to keep them focussed on the end goal, our plan to get there, and be strong to ignore outside noise and negativity.

However, it's a good point NOC as we haven't seen this particular group of players before to know for sure how strong we are mentally. Time will tell.

He may be spectacularly boring but he’s financially secure and can afford most things…apparently.

Well it's not like we ended last season on fire is it?

Objectively we have one of, if not the, hardest starting fixtures.

It's been posted on here a lot.

Unfortunately, there's a handful of people who don't understand that.

No..we hit the beach prematurely in April when the main job was done.
What's hard about West Ham and Spurs at Home.. or Brentford ?.. if we consider those fixtures hard...we are done already.
This is time for straight talking fans to make the points.
