Nottingham Forest v AFC Bournemouth

I dont buy into that cliche at all. Proven decisions don't even themselves out. Lazy comment to brush away bad decisions imo.
Not lazy at all. That wasn’t a penalty. Where is his arm supposed to be? And why wasn’t it a free kick?

VAR still ruining things.

World Famous City Ground lol.

And that Father Christmas chant from Forest fans was toe-curling.

Having merely seen it on the tv I don’t think it’s a penalty. I’m not sure what a natural position is supposed to be, I know my instinct if something was being booted at me wouldn’t be to hold my arms behind my back… so that feels pretty unnatural. Having my arms by my side where they fall or move when running jumping would be natural…

Then of course his arm is out of the box.

But other than that it’s a decent shout…

Nothing to do with that decision. Meant that comment in general.

Looked like outside box to me, but as I said yesterday, angles not great.

And yeah that City ground song is one of the most embarrassing things sung by fans.

Father Christmas, hates Derby, hates Leicester but loves Forest. Jeez.

LOL! Quite hard to imagine a more realistically cringy reportoise of songs tbh.

I think we should do a tongue in cheek rendition of the world famous dean court when they visit. Perhaps throw in something about being Associate Members Cup Champions too...

Scott is a ten not a 4 or 8 as we saw when he lost the ball badly with no cover to give them a lifeline.

I think this is incredibly harsh. He’s a young player, with barely any experience in the Premier League, coming back from an injury after a lengthy time off.

He thought he had more time than he did, he made an error, as all players do and have done. To write him off playing certain positions due a split second decision is wrong in my view.

Hes not a 10, or least not his most effective position. He can play anywhere from dmc to amc, but he's most effective as cm, with license to get forwards... basically where Christie currently plays. All round game, workrate, vision is superb. He's rarely played amc/10 for Brizzle.

He;;s box to box, all action, with incredible technical and intelligence. He'lll dictate games, tempo from middle, once he's bedded in. He's also tough, aggressive... defo cm for me.

I wasn’t making that decision on that error. I watched his positioning the whole game, he was booked too early as well and left way too much space for people. Also the view of a Bristol City fan that said he is the best player he has seen wear their shirt. We lost control of the midfield with him on the pitch and had to take him off to regain it.

I was very vociferiously positive in the thread to sign him and haven’t changed that view, just for more advanced positions.

Give him a chance. He's looked more than capable before the injury. He's young... very young, and making big step up.

He's not about flair so much, very clever, technical... with fericious drive, work rate. cm all day for me

It wasn't a free kick, as play continued and eventually was put into touch, at which point VAR looked at the incident.

Once the decision was "no penalty", it is not within the framework of VAR to bring it back for a freekick on the edge of the box, so the restart is the throw-in.

Had the referee given a penalty, and VAR looked at it and ruled it was outside the box, then the freekick would have been given. Of course, it is possible in this particular case that with the decision from the ref being a penalty, and VAR were not able to conclusively prove the handball was outside the box, then the on-field decision probably would have stood!

Tight one, but payback for the Kelly incident in the same fixture last season.

His arm wasn't in the pen area, no penalty.
That was the weirdest thing about Gary Birtles' TV commentary (that it seems many heard, legally or otherwise). Birtles kept going on and on about where Smithy's feet were.

Then, ha, then, then, Birtles said that, instead of referees, they should have ex-players in charge of VAR!

Birtles spent almost the entire second half of the first half going over the second yellow card for Boly. Was he the only one that didn't see how Boly deliberately targetted Smith's foot? Either way, he was like a dog with a bone, he would not let it rest.

Someone at NBC must have told Birtles to wise up at half time and he moderated his Forestry a bit.

I hope that I never hear Birtles again.

When we attacked he talked about the Forest defence and when they attacked it was all about them. I am not sure how much was bias and how much was the fact that he didnt seem to know any of the Bournemouth players names other than Dom so couldnt say much.

At one point after about 30 minutes he said he would be saying the same if it was a Bournemouth player who’d been sent off. I thought straight away he’d been told to moderate his views.
Didn’t work though, a couple of minutes later he was off again.

Don't think anyone's putting the boot in, they are just comparing the tactics.

GON would have 100 per cent tried to sit on the lead.

It's a negative tactic though, and almost tells the players we are lucky to get our noses in front.... so let's defend that narrow lead.

It's counterproductive and a negative message to the players, and it rarely paid off.

Wolves will be right down in the mire come May, and we most likely will be MI table or above.

Gary was great for us at the time, but the club did the right thing and moved on from the negative football.

Football is entertainment, and Gary wasn't doing much entertaining.
A mate of mine is a Wolves fan and the noises he hears are very similar to what they were when GON was here. Nice guy, some very strange decisions and some very good ones. The result against City has certainly afforded him some good Grace. My mate mentioned when they appointed GoN that it seemed like a stopgap with potential new owners coming in. He has stopped asking me if I thought sacking GON for Ariola was a mistake for some reason though....

Birtles was shocking, I thought I'd found Forest TV or whatever they have but it was Optus Sport who are Australian I think. Zero neutrality.

That came of loud and clear, hilarious as did 'you've never won foock all'. I really hope the response was 'you weren't even born'. Well done everyone who travelled, shame I missed this one. I have Forest fans in the extended family, never gracious in defeat, never ask about us, the conversation is always totally about Forest as if no other club exists. Yesterday was sweet even if I saw that Dom had scored the winner on here about a minute before the stream caught up.
