Lloyd Kelly

So Lloyd Kelly then, hasn't left and, as I understand it, his contract will expire when the next transfer window opens. Obviously there is the possibility that he will sign an extension but this seems extremely unlikely at this point.

What to do with him then? Obviously we should pick the best team possible each game but surely there needs to be half an eye on the future now. Kerkez will only benefit from game time and there's no 'shop window' considerations with Lloyd Kelly - i.e. we won't get a fee so we don't need to play him to jack the fee up.

So should Kelly just be back up from now on?

As all positions. The best player starts

Think we should play our strongest team.

I'm not sure I agree, especially in defence. Young players with potential need game time - sure they will make mistakes but this is part of the process of improvement and is in the long term benefit of the club.

Lloyd Kelly may be the better player short term but is it more beneficial to the club to play him ahead of Kerkez when he's off in the summer? Not for me.

Yes it's more beneficial as we are likely to be higher up in the league due to playing our strongest team meaning we are better financially.

Tough one to call as we don't really understand where things are at with him. What we do know is that the club have offered a decent contract to him, and as of yet, it is not signed... However, I doubt we'll just decide to drop him for Kerkez whilst this is an ongoing discussion...

I thought Lloyd played well last night, despite the pen... He has come back and slotted in really well at LB ad I do think he is a better LB than CB. He offers a level of calm in the position and has started pushing forward a lot more. Kerkez is still displaying moments of blood rushing to the head... He's like an energizer bunny, and as a result gets caught out...

For now, I would play Kelly over Kerkez as long as he is performing... However, there will come a time in the coming weeks where the club will need to address the situation and Iraola will need to begin thinking about players that are committed to the club and want to play under him. At some point the club needs to draw a line and get Kelly to stand on one side of it...

Sure but if it means Kerkez is a better player come the start of next season then we'll be better off financially when he propels us to a higher position than if he barely features for the rest of this season.

Two differnt players, Kelly better defender, Kerkez better charging forward to help with the attack, so horses for courses, it depends on who we are playing.....

We are trying to move up the table and will need our best players out on the pitch. That said, our fullbacks are cursed with injuries this season, so I expect those to have a lot of influence over who plays in those positions.

Absolutely this

We ask a lot of our fullbacks, so it's no surprise that this seems to be a hotspot position for injured players...
Also some players are more vulnerable to injury than others. Kelly has been very unlucky with injuries. Wonder if something can be done. Different position but Harry Kane went through a few season, where he got ankle injures 1-2 times a season, but he hasn't had one for a few seasons. Did he have surgery or do some special resistance rehab?

Definitely not, he’s the best left back and quickest defender, Kerkez will get his chances and will also learn a lot from watching Kelly’s defensive play. As for Kelly, I would love him to stay but the chance of being an overnight millionaire and get to play football for a top club in Europe and just live and work in a different country for a few years, no brainer for me. Good luck too him whatever he decides

Hmm, if he was going abroad he could have signed a preliminary contract by now. Not sure that’s on the agenda. Post Lerma you’d have to assume that he’s lined up for a lucrative contract with a mid-table team. Which is what I expect.

However, maybe watching Solanke’s trajectory may convince him the better career move would be to hugely enhance his reputation under AI.

The longer it goes on the longer I don’t think he will sign as why would you wait. I’m guessing he has an offer from a prem team with a big sign on fee. But maybe wrong
