Dominic Solanke

40 million, 20% of which will go to Liverpool? They're having a laugh. Offer 80 million and it's worth considering if we can get a decent replacement in quickly.

I would keep him, if our club want to do a Brighton and challenge for a place in Europe, you keep your best players.

Bill Foley has ambitions and selling Solanke for me would be a big mistake.

Finding a good striker who scores goals on a regular basis isn’t easy and a lot of other clubs are looking for that same player.
Don’t disagree with your points but ffp means our current outgoings don’t make sense unless you sell your assets for a decent return from time to time. Brighton do this well on smaller initial outlays. Would only sell if we get top dollar for him and not until summer.

Always dangerous to speculate, of course, but I also think dom should want to prove himself at a top club given perceived failures at Chelsea and liverpool. Would help his international ambitions too.

Not sure Europe is a real prospect for now tbh. Maybe in a few years but it will be tough to overtake some of the clubs

Why do we have to sell for FFP? Why can we just not spend so much money on players? We didn’t need either Adams or Traore really, that’s 45m already!
We thought we needed Adams to replace Lerma tbf......nobody saw a Cook and Christie partnership being so effective.

Brighton have literally built their success on the proceeds from selling their best players. You couldn't pick a worse example.

I am sure that our brightest and best players would want to prove themselves on the biggest stage, which isn’t something we can offer. So it makes sense to sell on on the very best players when we can.

No one on here seems to begrudge Nathan Ake’s opportunity to go to Man City and I for one would be glad to see Solanke’s hard work rewarded by a move to a top club, with a decent fee in return.

I think it’s good that future signings can see there is a path from afcb to a top club as we want ambitious players. Also have seen some of our best players stagnate as they stayed too long / think this helped contribute to our relegation

Liverpool signed the forward in 2017 from Premier League rivals Chelsea with Solanke going on to make 27 appearances for the Reds, netting once. Two years later, he swapped Merseyside for the South Coast when he penned terms with Bournemouth for a fee worth an initial £19million plus add-ons.

It has been previously reported by the ECHO that the Reds have already received the add-ons from the initial deal, as the Anfield club scored a reported £24million from his move.

Sources have told the ECHO that former sporting director Michael Edwards was key to negotiating two clauses in the move from Liverpool to Bournemouth, one being a buyback clause and the other a 20% sell-on clause.

Maybe I'm thick too but does selling in January actually afford a premium on the price over selling in the summer?
If nothing else it's worth 6 months of amortisation on the contract. In general I'd guess the short window in comparison to the summer just puts the onus on the buying club to 'put up or shut up' bid the asking price or move onto other targets, they can't haggle around too long.

Of course that pattern would apply to us equally, if we were to sell Dom and go looking for a replacement.

Typically it does but the original question was that I would think the sale price would be more important than the timing when it comes to FFP, the numbers I made up for illustration.

So could Liverpool buy him back at the buyback price and then sell him on

There might not be a buyback price set. It could well be that when we do agree a price with someone else we have to inform them and they get an option to match it.
