Richard Hughes

Daily Mail

Three paras from story.

Bournemouth technical director Richard Hughes is emerging as a candidate for the sporting director role at Liverpool in the summer.

The 44-year-old is regarded as someone well equipped to replace Jorg Schmadtke in a new-look structure at Anfield.

He has overseen the club's recent success under Andoni IIraola and may be intrigued by the chance to make the step up to Liverpool come the end of the season.

Because it’s the only one from Eddie. Nowhere else has Eddie said they couldn’t get Hughes to Celtic. There have been times where he’s said he couldn’t get his coaches though. He wouldn’t mention Hughes as it was never happening. Del keeps mentioning the reliability of media not me as it’s all agent led mumbo jumbo in my book.

It's not from Eddie it's paraphrasing from this interview where he doesn't mention any names...

Is that why you used a screenshot rather than a link? So people wouldn't check the source?

No I can’t do links :grinning:

It really doesn’t matter if they made up the people he wanted to bring to the clubs names. I don’t know their sources and I’m the one arguing most of what is in newspapers is agent or agenda led

You are the one dying on the hill for the reliability of the media when they said Eddie wanted Hughes despite the fact 1) he has never said this and 2) people don’t get to choose their boss in life.

Timeline of events

Celtic announced the deal was off with Eddie less than one calendar month before Purches and Weatherstone left AFCB.

There is no way, a deal like that wouldn’t happen if those were the only sticking points.

They’d waited months and months for Eddie up to this point, I doubt with a few weeks left and all the hurdles overcome they binned it off.

Other reports suggested Howe wasn’t happy with the potential signings at Celtic, player identification an issue. Those in the know in Glasgow suggested that role was available and there were strong links with Hughes. The only person who was unattainable in Celtic’s budget.

Howe ends up at Newcastle, where scouting and a budget was less of a problem so only needed coaching staff.

Funny how it mattered when you thought it supported your point. I'm not particularly dying on the hill of media reliability but I do think there's a difference in filling in some blanks from the Shearer interview to pad the story out and then the Scottish press writing multiple articles about the interest in Hughes - what possible motivation would they have to completely make up a story about someone their fans had barely heard of? They don't care either way about Richard Hughes so why would they just make it up?

Why would Howe blow smoke up his **************** if he hated his guts? He'd just say thanks rather than all of those platitudes. I just don't think Howe is a grudge type of bloke as he's shown with Tindall.

Because he has a good agent? Beats me…. Hope he gets the Liverpool job.

As for the links in Celtic and Newcastle it’s just lazy journalism if you ask me. Just as players get linked to former bosses all the time like the couple Rayo players we were linked with in the summer that didn’t happen.
Hughes wasnt going to celtic or anywhere else with Eddie

“May be intrigued”- doesn’t sound like a safe reason to jump ship. I’m interested in who we get in to replace him.

You missed the word ‘my’ off your opening sentence. There’s more supposition in there than a Daily Sport front page.

You’re missing my point. I don’t need media to prove it… people don’t appoint their boss.

Who the people he wanted at Celtic were pretty obvious even before he proved it by taking them to Newcastle.

Listen it's your anti Hughes campaign not mine. Most normal people can see what the club has achieved since he's been involved, can see that Howe enjoyed working with him as he made clear in his statement and can see that he was linked with a move to Celtic when Howe was also linked. It's all pretty straightforward to me Neil, I don't need convoluted leaps of logic to support my opinion because the facts are just staring me in the face.

Also I couldn't really care less about Hughes, he's done well for us but is clearly not irreplaceable. Your agenda against his is completely bizarre though.

Oh dear ...oh dear ..oh deer ..oh water buffalo !

FFS ...no one really knows the extent and outcomes of shenanigans at Dean Court ...all those people running the club had, and have flaws...Blake....Hughes....even Eddie Howe...Fletch....Yems even...bickering would have been occuring, almost every day... worse when results were negative...mass bickering ..
... flawed ...just like on this Forum.

At the end of the day....they get paid.....players get paid....various combinations of them trundle out on bits of grass around England...folk pay money to watch and then stare at league tables and other piles of statistics in news papers and devices between games.

Some staff stay..some go....
The fans observe the to and fro'
Was he good ..was he sh*t ?
Did he perform in the 'free hit' ?
Versus Fulham was he better?
Obeying the gaffer to the letter?
No ? So stick him out on the wing,
See if he makes the Ted shed sing,
Next game make him a 'false 9',
Maybe then..the lad will shine,
If the bugger still no good.. sign annuver,
Fly to Cameroon ..sign his bruvver.

Neil is hilarious. Lloyd Kelly is apparently our best defender because of all the big clubs that are linked to him. Thats his evidence...

Now Hughes is linked with Liverpool Im shocked, I tell you, shocked, that Neil doesnt admit he might be wrong.

Lloyd Kelly is our best defender in my opinion because of my own eyes… nothing more.

Hughes could go to Real Madrid and it wouldn’t change my opinion that we could have had a better use of our cash and less needless management change in his tenure here. Just as Parker going to a Champions League club after us didn’t change the fact he was an average manager.
