AFC Bournemouth v Manchester City - Saturday 5.30 pm

Don’t think I’ve enjoyed a defeat as much? The bravery was superb. The places individual defenders got when following their man was incredible. Twice when Foden dropped deep Zab was further forwards than Solanke. It was brilliant and City couldn’t really fathom it.

Semenyo was excellent as was Kerkez and Christie and MOM from those three but closely followed by Zab and Smidge.

Downsides… Tavs and Neto and also the thought that we expended a lot of energy ahead of Tues so may need to make changes. Really enjoyable and for only the second occasion in recent history City knew they were in a game against Bournemouth.

I say recent history because it’s been like City’s past has been erased pre their premier league years but some of us remember an epic comeback and painting Manchester red afterwards…

Can't do much more than add to all the positivity on here. Everything but enough luck to get the goal and result we deserved. I can't remember a home defeat leaving us all so elated. It's true, we're good enough to give the exulted World Club Champions a match. I'm not saying we're as good as them (yet) but by crikey, they had to resort to their best sh*thousery to hang onto the 3 points
: )

2 points, I believe, the finishing will come and we will batter some teams. The other, keep the faith with Tavs, he'll return to form soon enough, something will drop for him and he'll be back to primo Tav : )

Andoni ? What a manager!! Haven't won in 6, losing 0-1 at home to Mega club Man. City (with their array of Allstars and tactical genius Pep in charge) 15 minutes plus injury time to go, what do you do?
Shut up shop, take a 0-1 or 2 defeat, replace attackers with defenders and "game manage" the match to it's conclusion.
Or
Take off a centre half and full back and replace with attack minded players. Reduce the Allstars to hanging on, time wasting and general sh*thousery. He manages like a fan would but with tactical nous. It's one thing telling the players they're as good as "them", it's another convincing them : )

Cracking atmosphere today, especially 2nd half. Well done the club with supporting the "Unite for Access" initiative and the BU inclusion stuff. Great to be there today : )

Edited to add, having seen Motd, it's going to take a lot of faith in Tavs but we all know there's a player in there : )

Nice to see Pep really miss the point with his victory speech.

Only 3 days to recover with a squad that's worth nearer to a billion than millions.

When you have a 25 man squad made up of huge talent you can bring on 100 million pound players whenever you want.

We could easily have won that game 3-1 had we converted our chances.

Next year we will bloody their nose, if not this year in the FA Cup.

What a tit he is.

Having that squad at your disposal doesn't necessarily make you a great manager you ignorant prick.

Having seen the goal again, have to say Senesi at fault , rather than Neto or Zabs. If you're going to go for the ball in that situation, you have to win it. Having said that, he played really well.
Also is Haaland all that? He seems to miss a hell of a lot of sitters. That chance after 10 mins or so was a real "oooh Benik Afobe" moment

Stats from two websites.

Whoscored had Neto as our best player.

Bournemouth: Neto (6), Smith (6), Zabarnyi (6), Senesi (6), Kerkez (6), Christie (6), Cook (6), Semenyo (7), Kluivert (6), Tavernier (6), Solanke (6).

Subs: Ouattara (7), Scott (6), Faivre (n/a), Unal (n/a), Sinisterra (n/a).

Man City: Ederson (7), Akanji (7), Stones (8), Dias (7), Ake (6), Rodri (8), Kovacic (7), Foden (9), Nunes (6), Silva (6), Haaland (6).

Subs: Doku (6), Alvarez (6), De Bruyne (n/a).

Player of the match: Phil Foden (Man City).

This result fully emphasises that we must take six points from our next two league game of which are six pointers. We cannot allow the Burnley and Sheff united to gain ground on us.

TLDR of the stats.

xG significantly differed by half. First half AFCB 0.14 and Man City 1.35; second half AFCB 0.79, Man City 0.29

Impressive values for Kerkez – 3 shots (joint most) 92% pass completion rate (highest) and joint most defensive actions (13).

Most tackles attempted by AFCB this season

We significantly pushed Man City back based on recent average positions.

+5 points on corresponding games

Interesting that I read that Brentford did so well against Man City* because they were organised and blunted them by playing deep and suffocating the game. Haaland still produced that one moment.
We pushed them back into their own half (second half), meant Doku wasn't a force - Smith was in their half and Doku wasn't tracking back. Kerkez was always pushing on.
Yet, City found a way to grind two wins. But it's interesting to look at the two different styles.
The clock watcher is telling his team to grind out points for survival while we went on the front foot and said we'll have a go.
Two teams going in different directions?

You’re absolutely right Steven. A 15 point lead is nowhere near enough with 12 games still to play. These are both must win games.
Our season depends on it.
And don't forget that 2 clubs below us might have points deducted... that makes our next 2 games even more vital

And the incredible run Burnley & Sheff U are on - positively breathing down our necks.
