Safe standing

You should read the Supporter Liaison Officer Update April 2024 on COWS. Apparently, "Risk to supporters is generated by those standing in seated areas where there are no measures in place to prevent a progressive crowd collapse". It's worrying stuff..
Glastonbury must be a death trap.

Are people allowed to stand whilst queing 30 minutes to get food/drink or use the toilets? They should install benches and you shuffle along to get to the front of the queue. Better to get splinters in your backside than run the risk of having a progressive crowd collapse.

As a fully qualified Project anager don't ya know I have done many a risk assessment. Key factors in assessing risk are the likelihood of something occurring and the impact if it does.

Standing outside.
Likelihood of getting wet = High
Impact of getting wet = worst case you get cold.

Likelihood of getting hit by a meteorite = very low
Impact of being hit by a meteorite = instant death

Standing in a stadium
Likelihood of a progressive crowd collapse = Very low
Impact of being in a progressive crowd collapse = Multiple casualties, small risk of death

Will the club be telling fans to travel to matches in Chieftain tanks to avoid meteorites ?

Pains me to make the case for standing but common sense ain't so common.

There's more chance of me getting DVT sat in my seat than a progressive crowd collapse let alone from a few folk stood up in the back rows.

New stadium is actually being created to allow a force field to be deployed in front of each stand. Capable of defelcting nuclear missiles.

The stands will also be erected 200 metres from the pitch, just in case.

Or no stands at all. Season ticket holders will be able to watch stream of game from home. The club will be sending the seat/seats in the post to use, in order to provide authentic matchday experience, from comfort of your own home/living room.

And of course yellow paint and tape measure. Proof of a 24inch yellow no standing zone between your seat and tv will need to be sent to the club before the live stream is delivered each game.

Along with video evidence that you have no items on banned list in your posession. Webcam also active at all times, in case you break the usual rules.

:D
We're probably several years off it yet, but I suspect the highlighted part will be one of those Simpsons moments, where the parody ends up sort of coming true. Augmented reality streaming of the match to your home.

Yes just imagine. All very Simpsons/WallE esque...

Just heard a special contraption for full body search will also be delivered as part of the package. Basically pinned to a revolving contraption naked, spinning around to 'interogate' each customer. Like a weird osalating vitruvian man.

And webcam will be painted orange, with reflective strips velcrowed on to add to authenticity of matchday experience.

"As a fully qualified Project anager" Did you miss the m at the beginning or the second a? Just teasing. :)

But to include a virtual barrier between you and the TV.

Risk is such a generic phrase. Any with a hint of risk management background will know you deal with risks according to the likelihood of it occurring, and the severity if it were to occur.

Given that this has been going on for years I’d argue the likelihood is very low. And I think the severity in an all seater stadium is also low.

I am therefore assuming the SGSA are being deliberately clueless and/or our security personnel are being deliberately antagonistic.

I’m sure the club wouldn’t want that.

Ah, so your sexual preferences are revealed. :)

Sorry for repeating you!

From the SEG Minutes on the club website:

"MW asked if there was ever a consideration for the whole of block 15 to be safe standing, both CG and NZ discussed the impact on the view of supporters in other blocks which would ultimately mean the whole of the Vitality Steve Fletcher North Stand would need to be safe standing, which wasn’t feasible."

Seriously! Do these people even know where Block 15 is? How does that Block impact the view of anyone else in the stadium? Clueless!

It would block the view of the corner flag, lino and anything that might happen off the pitch down there for some people in block 14.

What in the same way that the safe standing front rows of the away end blocks the view of those in east stand centre? Don’t think so!

Have you ever sat there ? For comparison there's a seat available in row G block 11 for Brentford and looking at the virtual view it would be impossible to be obstructed by anyone in block 10. This is a mirror image of block 14/15.

I'm pretty sure if this had been 'a thing' block 15 wouldn't have been allowed to stand for the last few decades - and the lower part would, I'm sure have fully understood the situation and sat down.

The fact Jim's liked your post and two new employees are making these decisions and imposing draconian powers elsewhere is pretty sad really.

I probably have sat there at some point yeah. The people on the aisle side at the bottom of that block generally haven't stood from what I've seen.
