Accounts - June 2023

So the club should have cut ticket prices to ease the cost of living crisis for people then? It wouldn't have impacted their bottom line much. My point is that it's not for a football club to solve the cost of living crisis for supporters.
Nope another straw man. I did not say cheap and I did not say cut. Next

I'm obviously not getting my point across very well. The tickets are cheaper than they would be if left purely to market forces because demand outstrips supply to a massive degree - they are effectively subsidised as it is and every time they don't raise them with inflation the effective subsidy increases. They are cheap as it is.

Why do fans feel entitled to cheaper tickets (cheaper because a price freeze this year despite the massive levels of inflation would take an even bigger subsidy) after nine years of price freeze?

We expect him to build a new ground but don't think we should contribute our share?

Socialists coming to the fore. I want everything cheap/free... yes someone has to pay, as long as its not me...

And remember, we froze ticket prices for a long long time...

There's a "make gradual progress in solving the capacity situation, treat us with a bit of respect and don't take the p*ss" type rule of thumb to apply here.

Yeah as I think I said on the other thread they need to be careful this summer. If they force more fans out by not getting the home points system right and try to put prices up again it will only cause more resentment among fans.

If it were me I'd find a way to make it easier for fans with loads of points to attend games without the bunfight - I'd also freeze prices again and put them up next time when hopefully we can see genuine progress on a new ground. They could offer a season ticket waiting list with deposit at that point too.

Can you just write off shareholder loans and the FFP rules are fine with it?
yes, shareholders loans will be shown in the balance sheet not P and L. FFP is to do with limiting the amount of loss the clubs make. paying off or writing off interest free loans will have no effect on P and L for FFP purposes.

Just going to quote the chart on the previous page. Only 5 clubs charged fans per seat per game higher than AFCB did in the previous season. I’m not sure what dictionary definition others are using to bound about words like cheap, subsidised or socialism…

Also maybe worth considering that the accounts are for end of June 2023.

Match tickets had not gone on sale at the current prices by this point in time and season tickets for the upcoming season had been on sale for a month, with income probably added to the next accounting period ie the accounts that will come out in 12 months time ish?

I am so depressed. Like all premier league teams we are no longer a football club, we are now a business. Profit, loss, income, expenditure, prices, costs etc.
the club has always been a business right from its early days, its always had income and expenditure, profit and mainly losses, there has always been prices and costs. its just in the premier league the figures are massively higher and fans and the media are more aware than in previous times

Wouldn’t agree with that, I took far more of an interest in our accounts during the League One and Two days than I do since promotion to the Premier League.

I think most of us did DJ because the club wasn't really being run as a business, more like a broken charity begging for money at times, and I don't mean that as a criticism of those in charge at the time because they faced a monumental task to keep us afloat because of historic failings. The raised awareness now is simply because of points deductions and their implications in the league table.

Maybe stick this on the Jackson thread? So far Unal and Foley threads are being taken off topic.
I'm sure Dragon will be more than happy to collaborate with DJ to ensure it happens seamlessly :D

It might have been shoehorned into this thread to be fair. But I still think it’s on topic or enough of one to not be needed to be moved to the Jackson thread.

The general point about investment in players for resale value, on a thread about the accounts where we’ve made very little on transfers is a fair one.

It was also of course that a debt figure could theoretically be small enough for fan involvement to be credible to “save the club”.

It isn’t anymore and hasn’t been for a decade.

Doesn't the loan write off appear in the P&L account as exceptional income?

I accept that we are and have always been a business. I'm not that naive , maybe just a bit ineloquent. It's just that since we joined the Premier League, finance has become the one overriding factor and as long standing fans, we are starting to feel a bit irrelevant.

I think fans of all clubs above League 1 probably feel the same. The big money is in TV and sponsorship and isn't going to change anytime soon.

Wouldn't you need to compare ticket prices and median income per seat rather than the overall average. The clubs who have the highest income per seat are those who charge loads to corporate people yet many have some relatively low season ticket prices.

Yeah, its the whole dichotomy of wanting success for your club, but highly likely fans become more distanced and club/players become more shiny/celeb like...
