AFC Bournemouth v Norwich City - Fourth Round League Cup (EFL)

Question: If this ' reserve11' managed to get us to the final.....would Eddie then play the main team bearing in mind it's an entry into Europe?..or would he keep to the same? I would imagine that causing dissent amongst the ' squad'!
Anne Boleyn managed to have a Coronation and a Beheading!
What the hell, why not qualify both ways - win Cup and by the table.

Joking aside, what has been built is fantastic but there is no guarantee that these opportunities will come along year after year. In professional sports, any sport, you have to go for it when you get the chance. So,if we get to the semis and our place in the PL for next year is secured, I think you have to go all-in.

Not a great game to watch unfortunately BUT we are through to the QF’s! Pugh was the only player for me to put his hand up to play in the league team. Some good last ditch defending from our defence but they looked far from assured without Ake. Artur made some good stops but kicking was woeful. Surman and Gosling were far too pedestrian in the midfield and as for Ibe, awful. Anyway we’re through, somehow!

Just got back, the first half apart from the goal was boring.

Second half was slightly better.

Eddie wasn’t happy in his interview after the game.

Close this chapter and move on to Man U.

The Gosling and Surman partnership got beasted by their Norwich counterparts tonight. All issues with lack of structure to the side and the inability to retain any possession, flow from that problem area.

Was disappointed to see Gosling's best contribution of the night, a brilliant gutsy second half tackle, given as a foul. Travesty! But he and Drew were very poor.

Agree, it was hard to watch. Have to wonder if we are getting near the point where he needs a new start elsewhere. Yet, when asked, his teammates will say that he has the most skills.

I neither listened nor watched, so only have this thread
Need a stronger team to get through the next round

I think that the fewer amount of changes this round might well lead to a fewer changes next round and the round after. Seems to be picking a team for the match rather than simply appeasing the players out of the squad

Sometimes you need to win ugly, but we got away with one there, boys. The rust of not playing competitively and in a unit really showed for some guys, and you could see the difference when Ryan and Callum came on. Boruc MOTM?
Yeah Boruc played well , made some good saves , did look sharp which is pleasing.
Overall though very average and Norwich the better team for sure .

Defoe, offering nothing outside the box these days, is specifically picked to make full use of chances inside the box when they come. That early miss was a textbook Defoe chance, meat and drink to him in years past. And he's missed a few sitters in his cup games thus far.

Just rusty through lack of proper games? Or worth seriously questioning his future place in the squad?

The utterly transformative effect of Ibe / Defoe off, Fraser / Wilson on, speaks volumes.

Sorry but Ibe needs to go out on loan or be shipped out altogether a dreadful performance from him.Defoe was not much cop either.
Ibe desperate, Defoe did nothing again , Rico poor , not very impressive at all but a win . UTCIAD

Indeed , but if you can’t use them properly then it doesn’t matter how skilful you are .

Frustrating. On the one hand a lot of these players get the one chance to impress but at the same time it‘s hard to impress if you make a great pass or run and your team mates totally don‘t expect it and we end up losing possession or not creating a clear cut chance. It‘s only a fair chance for these peripheral players to impress if the team as a whole has the right understanding. Not sure what the answer is, we lack competitive fixtures to bed in our cup selections. And as has been mentioned, if by some fluke we reach the final one season, would Eddie then play a full strength team to win the silverware or would we persevere with our skin of the teeth selection ? I suspect the latter, since it would be unfair to deprive the cup team of their chance for glory right at the death and Eddie values fairness pretty highly.
I think cup competitions were a lot easier when we were in the lower leagues. Success in the cups was a real ambition back then whereas now the cups create multiple dilemmas for Eddie and his staff and we as fans get frustrated by the selections and performances but at the same time can understand why they do what they do. Pretty sure our “reserves” are not too happy about the situation either. All in all it’s pretty unsatisfactory but at least we scraped through to the next round and hopefully a further chance for this team to impress and improve.

Does it really matter who we play? Burton are just as likely to take us apart as any other!!! The way football is in this era ..a large amount of players will exert themselves when they feel like it.. when the contract and big money is in place. Even some at Burton won't really care a monkeys f##k whether they are still in the Milk Cup, the Egg Cup or the sailing on the River Plate....they are not that ' boverred'. Or even more so maybe, Nottingham Forest!

Ibe is on some big pennies eh ? A possibility of excelling v Norwich for a place v Man U might have fired up someone like Surridge or someone else who didn't cost much....but judging by reports tonight our boy Jordan isn't up for much.
