AFCB Hope To Progress To The Fourth Round

After the Sunday league game away against Brighton, the Cherries are back home at Dean Court on Wednesday night at 7.45 pm in the Third Round of the League Cup. The visitors are Championship side Stoke City. Their manager is the experienced Alex Neil, he is in his second season at the Potters. City is his fifth club, his last club was Sunderland and before that he was at Preston, Norwich City and Hamilton Academical.

Stoke City reached the Third Round by beating West Brom at home in the First Round by 2-1. In the Second Round they hammered Rotherham United 6-1. The Cherries in the Second Round were away at Swansea City and won 2-3, AFCB’s goals coming from David Brooks, Hamed Traore and the winning goal was scored in injury time by Ryan Christie.

We have only ever met Stoke City once before in the League Cup and that was away in the Potteries in November 1963 in the Fourth Round, the home side won 2-1. Our manager at that time was Reg Flewin, he had just taken on the job left by our player manager Bill McGarry who joined Watford.

In all our games against Stoke City, AFCB have W 11, D 7, L 14.

AFCB Team News
Lloyd Kelly was substituted at Brighton due to tightness in his calf, so probably won’t be risked with the Arsenal game on Saturday. He has only recently returned after being out injured with a calf injury.

AFCB Player To Watch
Luis Sinisterra will probably start in this game and our fans will get a chance to see why our club wanted to sign him. Maybe Tyler Adams might make the bench for this game.

Stoke City Team News
Ben Pearson missed their last league game against Hull City as he had picked up 5 yellow cards in his 7 league games and is the first player in the Championship this season to get a ban for this, but will be available for the cup game against his former club. Mark Travers who is on loan will not be available against his parent club. Tyrese Campbell went off early in the Hull City game with a hamstring injury.

Stoke City Player To Watch
Andre Vinegal has scored 4 goals in 4 games (1), including coming on as a substitute in the last game against Hull City after being out injured, he is their leading scorer.

The Referee
Graham Scott is in charge of this game, we had him once last season away at Fulham.

Expect some changes. Would expect Sensei and Mepham to start. Probably Brooks and Sinisterra to start and hopefully Semenyo will get a run up front . Not sure how many tickets have been sold but I'd be surprised if it's a sellout although for the masses that can't get in it's a chance to see the team. Tbh I'm not even sure how much the tickets were as I'm not going.

Sinisterra played in both Leeds games in Rounds 1 & 2 - so is he not cup tied?
