I think he is saying that he didn't expect the rookie who is playing his way to match fitness to understand his instructions and look more accomplished than his team mates.

It would seem as though Scott has more football intelligence than many of the players in our squad and probably this is why he understood his role very quickly.

I think that is one of the key attributes which make him such a hot prospect.
He's not just athletic and good with his feet, he also has that something extra going on inside his head. If he can stay injury free I think he should fulfil his predicted potential.
