AFC Bournemouth v Wolves

I wouldn't have taken Solanke off, I know he worked himself into the ground and was likely tired but he was the only player they feared and it was still 1-1 at the time and he was still causing them problems on counter with 10 men, taking on 3 Wolves men in one go and winning FK's to slow the game down.

Have only had time to skim through the MB tonight, safe to say we're all peed off with the result. Don't know how much of this has been covered but......

How many goals have we conceded 5 mins either side of half-time? Why does it just derail us so much?

We run around, do loads of the nitty-gritty stuff well enough but I hardly ever see a shot on goal or even expect it. A first half 1 goal lead ain't going to win us a match this season, from what I've seen. We're not organised, mentally sharp or smart enough to grind out a win and we're not "gung-ho" enough to go for the jugular.

I'm not a fan of the manager "digging" players out after the match for "individual mistakes". I'm not sure our best mangers did this.

I was surprised GON was sacked but not shocked. Then AI was appointed, all I read was "organised chaos", "rock and roll football", I'll sign up for that. First 2 games, I could see signs we were going back on the front foot, it'll take a while but there's something to build on. My opinion is, we haven't moved forward in nearly 3 months, the revolution appears to have stalled. We need to be better than we were 3 months ago, not blaming individuals.

I don't want us sacking AI and becoming " Just a shite Watford Football Club". Maybe I was suckered in by the hype and I wanted more. Maybe I should try and be patient but having seen over 200 Premier League matches involving Boscombe, I can see we look like a team in a relegation fight ( with a quarter of the season gone), when I thought we we're moving up from "survival mode".

We need to be better than losing because of a couple of mistakes, playing at our best for long enough periods will cover that.

Excellent post - but the most relative problem in our troubles have been the ‘non-impact’ of £80 million of signings. I, and others, would argue that we were a better side without them.
Add that to a new and unconventional way of playing can easily equate to problems.
Given the current squad I still maintain our best starting 11 is:
Gk(mmmmm)
Aarons/Senesi/Kelly/Kerkez
Rothwell/Scott(still undecided)
Christie/ Billing/Tavernier
Solanke.

Yet to be played this season!

In other news........

Myself and the Good Lady had a change to our usual Matchday routine. Arrived about 12-30, went to the Indoor Bowls Club ( Not the Kings Park Bowls Club, Rob : ). Had a brief chat with David Whitehead crossing the Park, met up with Mr Rob Trent and Ironman Dave, also Rocketeers Becky and Graham. Very good company and top-notch burger ( although they tried to hide some salad in it).

Met up with TCherry and his brother in the DC lounge. It really was nice to meet the two of you and I hope you both enjoyed the day : )

Rob, I can remember we were sat with Tommy Elphick's mum and nan at Tranmere. On that famous/infamous ( no inflatables ) day, when our fans left their stand at the final whistle running across the pitch as "Championeees" only to find we were runners up when they got to us : )

Had a chat with fellow Rocketeers Rich and Grammar School Neil outside the DC LOunge, got a "Who 'R Ya" from Fritter" and a "Good day Tables" from Robbie Wellsworld as we wended our way toward the turnstile. Cherry waves exchanged with GaryAFCB and Jim the weather : )

Everyone chirpy at halftime but we all seemed bemused at the end.

Ps I noticed the Indoor Bowls Club had a sign for "The Bournemouth Elite" when we went in, must have had a tip off : )

Yep. Point 2 I this link basically indicates exception to the rule can be made if the gk takes it quickly, not allowing the attacking player (s) to leave it. So there's no case for us feeling hard done by on this occasion imo

So, all he (Neto) needed to do was claim the ball, wait for everyone to clear the area and then punt the ball up field and secure a valuable point for his team. Not exactly rocket surgery !!

Worrying times. Individual mistakes alongside a general lack of form across our team is a recipe for relegation. There isn't one facet of our play that looks better than last season. Yet to see any sign of this rock n roll football that was promised, more like hotel lounge music.

We will now be without Cook for 3 games including Man City and Newcastle. Madness that we got to a position where a player who started less than half our games last season is now our sole defensive midfield option.

Getting increasingly worried about our attacking recruitment. Tens of millions spent in the last 2 windows and struggling to see much impact this season from Semenyo, Traore, Kluivert, Dango or Sinisterra (1 goal and 1 assist between them this season). We go back to relying on Dom and Billing for any creativity. At least some promising signs from Scott.

Neto simply has to be dropped/rested. It's beyond embarrassing at the moment, it's 2 or 3 howlers per match. I panic every time the ball enters are area, awaiting the flap. If neither Radu nor Randoph can provide effective cover then, again, wtf have our recruitment team been up to.

Burnley game is huge but no doubt they'll also be massively up for it and we are often quite charitable with teams out of form...

It's a blessing in disguise that Cook misses the next 3 games.

He is worse than rank average at PL level, despite his fanboys (and there are many on here) protestations.

He cost us the game today, make no bones about it.

Against Burnley we should have 2 holding midfielders, Senesi and Rothwell with a back 4 of Aaron's Zabarni, Mepham, Kelly and Kerzez.

Midfield we have to start Outtara, Kleivert, Scott, Billing, Brooks an Sinisteria.

Up top, Semenyo, Moore and Solanke.

It's our only hope, if we want to get something out of the game.

Problem is none of them are proper defensive midfielders.

There is something in having Rothwell deeper again alongside a more resolute DMC like last season, but that would mean AI changing the formation... which you could argue he needs too strongly consider at this juncture, but unlikely he will change to 2 DMC's v Burnley.

Senesi has never played there, he's always been an out and out CB. I know several on here have mentioned Senesi playing in midfield but that's almost fantasy football type stuff and there's nothing that indicates he could play there imo. He's too solid/tank like, and not balanced or agile enough to turn/change direction as sharply or have speed of thought/decision making in possession , positional awareness (stepping into a new position on the pitch) as you need too as a DMC/midfielder in tight spaces imo.

Who will play there is anyones guess. Right now the only candidates are Rothwell, Billing or Scott, but none of them are proper/specialist DMC's, which you need at this level.

100%. It’s Billings job to want the ball. It’s a keepers job to know the stage of the game and also to see the whole pitch, who is covering our players and where the gaps and dangers are.

I’d argue that’s every players job. Whether it’s an idiotic pass from the ‘keeper or an idiotic pass from a midfielder. They should all be aware enough when the pass should and shouldn’t be made…

On this occasion it was Neto, but other occasions you get players who play a pass that’s easiest for them but puts their teammate in a worse position than they had been in if they had kept the ball.

Then the next player does the same, it’s just plain daft at times.

● Bournemouth are one of two teams (along with Sheffield United) yet to win in the Premier League this
season (D3 L5). It’s their joint-longest winless run at the start of a Football League/Premier League season,
along with eight games in the third tier in 1994-95.

● After a run of six defeats in eight Premier League games (W1 D1), Wolves are now unbeaten in their last
three (W1 D2). However, they’ve won just one of their last 12 away league games (D3 L8), beating Everton
1-0 in August.

● No side have conceded more first-half goals in the Premier League this season than Bournemouth (9).
However, just 13% of the 23 goals in Wolves’ league games in 2023-24 have come in the opening 45
minutes (3 – F2 A1), the lowest ratio of all top-flight sides so far this term.

● Bournemouth have scored the fewest goals (5) and have the lowest shot conversion rate (5.3%) of any
Premier League side this season. Indeed, the Cherries have scored as many goals in two League Cup
games as they have in eight Premier League matches this term.

● Wolves boss Gary O’Neil’s first-ever Premier League game in charge was in this exact fixture, but as
Bournemouth manager in a 0-0 draw last season.

● Dominic Solanke has been involved in four of Bournemouth’s five Premier League goals this season (3
goals, 1 assist), the highest ratio of any player in the division this term (80%).

Thank God for the Cup games!

Oh come on, Neto took the kick too quickly.
Wouldnt argue it wasn't stupid for Neto not to take longer taking the goalkick then lump it as far away from goal as humanly possible. Apologies for the triple negative.

My point was more that if VAR can split hairs on offside decisions why can't i when it comes to opposition players not leaving our penalty box. As a professional athlete their player had enough time to leave the penalty box before the kick was taken. He had from the time the ball went out of play not from when Neto had a brain fart.

Yes this is splitting hairs. Was Neto idiotic yes. Will this post change anything no.

Do we play to the laws of the game to the extent that we are counting angels dancing on the head of a pin or not ?

I preferred having human refs and linos (not assistant referees) making human mistakes not this VAR sham that sucks the excitement out of attending matches and gives twices as many humans the opportunity to make human mistakes and, on occasion, check the club badge.

We're going to storm the Championship.

Can't wait !

I don't think the manager or all of the players are sh*t, they just aren't. Ultimately though, Hughes has convinced Foley to replace the manager and has armed him with the players we have. If it fails, as it currently is, he is responsible and will be rightly sacked. It really is very simple.
I don’t think that they are s((t , I just don’t think they are very
Disagree with that. The first half I felt we were lucky to go in ahead. Apart from them hitting the bar they always looked just one touch away from scoring whenever they played a ball through our centre kid and centre backs. A couple of occasions we made last ditch challenges that were close to going into our own net. We didn't learn from that. We were competitive in the first half but certainly weren't head and shoulders better than them. Conceding straight from KO is criminal. The red card just plain stupid and the the stats don't lie. We had 34% possession and they had 20 attempts at goal to our 7. I think on the day GON got his tactics spot on. I think over the season GON has got his tactics better than AI and whatever you may think of GON his team now sits 8 points above us . I'm sure I was reading on here a few weeks ago that the start to the season was irrelevant as this batch of fixtures would kick start our season. Of course everyone will deny ever saying or thinking that now. Just Burnley to go and then we go into those winnable games against Man City and Newcastle. Oh the irony. As it stands , right now, I'd have GON over AI everyday of the week. I personally hope he has a big smile on his face tonight after the way he was treated by our club. Our first sacking should be AI followed swiftly by Blake. That's if BF has got enough time Inbetween flying around the world purchasing other football clubs.
