Derby drink-driving

Was never a fan of him but this was quite obviously a scummy move by Derby. Especially considering he quite literally did nothing wrong other then be injured by his teammates lol.

Playing devil's advocate, you could say he did something wrong.

He was captain at one point , not sure if he was during the crash, but has as a senior pro, shouldn't he shoulder some responsibility for not preventing younger team mates from drink driving?

He was captain. Massively irresponsible. Jordan would have sacked him.

Imagiine if you owned a business and one of your managers got p1ssed with younger staff and ended up being injured in a car crash due to drink driving, they were unable to work for a year and you had to pay their wages for a year whilst they couldn't work due to it. Not sure where you'd stand legally, but I expect most wouldn't be happy...

Well you wouldn’t keep the youngsters on for sure.

Phillip Cocu (manager at the time) said that Keogh felt responsible for the situation, and after Lawrence and Bennett both returned to Derby's team, Cocu said they were "not off the hook". Lawrence and Bennett were then both fined 6 weeks' wages by Derby, and ordered to serve 80 hours of community service and rehabilitation. Keogh was sacked by the club. On 15 October 2019 Lawrence and Bennett pleaded guilty to drink driving at Derby Magistrates Court.

So Bennett was later moved on to Millwall, Lawrence was retained.
