Good news. Bolton takeover.

Rightly or wrongly, I still associate Bolton with calls for abolishing relegation to protect those sat at the top table at the right time...

Yep I think plenty still associate Bolton with Gartside and his comments. Bolton fans get very upset if you mention that though, think they found it embarrassing.

They've started the season well, so there's every chance they'll have enough about them to stay up this season.

A legacy of over stretching in the PL. A warning to all.

Not quite. That PL debt was all written off in 2016 by their previous owner. This is post 2016 debt taken on since.

It seems ironic that the 172m debt built up in the PL years: (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/f...-chairman-Phil-Gartside-is-seriously-ill.html) then written off in 2016 as part of their last take over - has been all been for nothing now if they're going into administration over a small 5m loan, taken out to facilitate that takeover.

Which at the time probably seemed a no-brainer, take on 5m debt to help a takeover write off 172m of debt? Of course you'd take that deal.

What a beautiful might that was, leading the singing in the QP then hopping the fence with two mates, when we really should know better. Muxh more difficult that it was thirty years previously, think that’s more the state of my body than the security

Yes, rivalry aside, you have to feel for their supporters when you see clubs in financial trouble,
We've been there and lets be honest you couldn't really ever rule out us being there again at some point

Maybe we should all reflect on how lucky we have been and also give thought to Reading Bolton Portsmouth etc and how relegations and poor financial management/ over reaching financially/ have had an affect on them
Our luck certainly changed big time when Max came on board, up till then we hadn't had much luck at all.

Aren't we a little like Bolton though? Up into the promised land and building up a huge debt on the playing side which, if we go down, would be unsustainable.

As dependent on our PL status to keep to from falling apart financially as they were.

Bolton: a real football town with a great stadium and name...the Wanderers. Hope they get through this. ...part of our History too..that famous night !
If only we could have a classy stadium like theirs!

Possibly - the critical thing is how you manage your wage bill in conjunction with parachute payments after relegation as well as how benevolent your owner is in subsidising any shortfall. Bolton didn't manage the wage bill at all well and have had changes in ownership that have failed miserably.
