Jim Frevola

Well, a first glance one might think so. However, I managed to get a sneak preview of the upcoming biography of Alastair Saverimutto entitled, A Life in Elite Sport. These extracts are from chapter 2.

"I specialise in turning around sports businesses. When I took over at Bournemouth the club were languishing at the bottom of the league and the finances were in a perilous state. I rapidly devised a plan to save the business from my hotel room on the 5th floor of the Bath Hotel on the sea front as well as other renowned hotels."

"Without taking a penny in remuneration from the club, I single-handedly drove the business to a place where it had never been before. The rest is history. I can't take the whole credit, there were some other minor players, but, undoubtedly, I laid the foundation for the rise to the Premier League in record time."

"So, another success, yet another job well done. It was time to move on to the next challenge."
What a delusional bellend. Savi I mean, not you Erik!

As a customer, with the exception of the one time they waved a fee for forgetting my ST, I've only really had negative interactions with the club staff in general so I think there's a huge room for improvement.

I've dealt with Liz in both a professional capacity and through the normal club process since she started at the club and have nothing but praise for her. How people can suddenly pop up out of the woodwork and basically want people removed for a load of unknowns is beyond me but hey ho. I'm ambivalent about Blake, clearly he'll be moved on and no I'm not putting some poxy charity bet on it.
I’m not asking you to bet on anything - read what I said I didn’t mention a bet - I said I’d donate £100 if Blake is still in post. You carry on defending Liz if that’s your bag but she was appointed as a P.A and not into senior management. I rest my case - I’ll go back into the woodwork now and we’ll let Foley decide who is right.

Liz will sort out individual problems but the problems often stem from poor systems and management. How many issues have we had with the ticketing, with horrendous queuing at times for big matches ? It’s no good fire fighting your own fires.

Every games a big match these days. :D
All sold out.

One thing that is constantly pointed out is just how few staff there working for the club. Liz Finney does multiple roles for example.

With the takeover i would hope that investment in resources (systems, people and infrastucture) is on the cards.

We've had about half a dozen at most in the last decade. Hardly the end of the world considering the journey the club has been on.

I think Max and Eddie decided on the priorities and that was to bring the ground up to minimal PL requirements and spend on players and wages. It actually worked in case you failed to notice, yet you still feel the need after all of these years to yet again pick out the same individuals because in 'your opinion' they're not leaders or whatever else you think they should be. I mean how long do you actually give someone ?

Personally I reckon the backroom staff were gagging for off field investment, expansion and the rest but the owner ultimately decided how he was spending his money, not them.

Can we give it a rest now - I’ve made my opinion known as you have yours - it’s getting boring.

It is a little poor that the club can't organise getting people into a ground at less than its designed capacity. Asking people to turn up 2 or 3 hours early and blaming them for organisational problems is if nothing else poor PR.

I think you'd need to work with people in the club to have opinions on individuals so I don't want to pick on individuals. I've had particularly poor interactions with Dan in the ticket office for example but he might "just be following orders". I wouldn't say 5 years in the EPL which resulted in a net loss of £160M and Eddie Howe as working but we all have different measures for that.

It is all a bit speculative but it feels to me that either people haven't been able or allowed to grow into roles which have expanded with the club's progress. Either way it's resulted in my opinion in a service which has declined as the club theoretically has become richer or aleast the director bonuses have.

You could well be right but I bet if they were able to produce savings or improvements the relatively small investments they would want would be found.

Either way, we're going to find out over the next 6- 12 months. I imagine this bloke will be the 1st of many installed in new roles, and they'll be assessing EVERYTHING in the near future and we'll see gradual restructuring.

I'd be surprised if many of the current middle managers/directors are in their current roles this time next year, if not made redundant, marginalised into positions with less responsibility.

I imagine Foley has an army of exceptionally sharp, ambitious associates and they'll have expectations, so anyone who's ended up in a role by default, and not providing enough value won't be kept around out of sentiment.

As we know, serious amounts of money are involved and at stake.

There's a danger of new money ripping the heart out of a company without really understanding it. Happens a lot when companies are bought out, and why many of them fail despite being bought by smart people who have succeeded with other businesses.

Foley has a hell of a track record. In US business. US and UK business are very different environments. As has often been said, at times we are two countries divided by a common language.

He's talked the talk but now he needs to start walking the walk. I'll remain sceptical until he starts delivering results. And I certainly won't be glorying in people who have served the club for years potentially losing their jobs. Not all the people being spoken about are on seven figure salaries. Most of them will be on a very ordinary wage.

Well I have worked for US companies in Europe and that isn’t my experience, when you look past the style and into the substance. Bill Foley’s wine business has expanded overseas - in New Zealand for example - and he seems to take a measured approach to making changes to local management and staffing structures.

What US companies are keen on are 100 day plans following change. My guess is that Blake and Hughes will have been tasked with setting about a three month plan and Foley will assess them against the quality of that (both the plans themselves and performance against them) before making further decisions. Aided by having his own bloke on the ground now.

Agree your point about being empathetic about any job losses.

Pretty convinced that Blake and Hughes will only be tasked with the football side of the business, so the upcoming transfer window, reshaping the squad, potential additions to O’Neil’s coaching staff and contract extensions for players.

That is some task.

Yes and I hope they have had there heads down getting target list and are lining them up and not leaving it to the last day of the month, I know there maybe a signing right at the end but get things done as we need signing early

That’s my take too, DJ. Which begs the question, who is responsible for the overall running of the club/business day-to-day as it’s seemingly not Blake, nor will it be Foley albeit he’ll have a close watching brief?

I think that is Blake who is still CEO. The new fellow is effectively Commercial Director, ie Head of Sales and Business Development.

I gather from Nate's tweet he likes Phish. Now Phish heads are probably Dead heads still awaiting the second coming of Jerry Garcia. A lot of them are getting behind Billy Strings, so with the timescale of building a new stadium in Kings Park and by then Billy will be big both sides of the Atlantic, will Billy Strings be the first headliner at the Boscombe Knights Megabowl Superdrome. Think I might call the Ticket Office now, see if I can reserve some seats : )
