All the wind farms in the world? The new off shore field at Hornsea alone is expected to cover the PEAK additional load on the grid due to EV charging on average as stated by the National grid. Thats all 32 million cars being EV. While it will not always be running at 100%, hopefully that shows how much energy wind farms provide.

I was replying to stan and his point about buying from dictators, so presumably oil and gas. We still need both and will do for the forseeable unless the Govt lob in some major incentives for the 32 million ICE owners and 23 million people relying on gas CH. Wind power doesn't make the slightest bit of difference in that respect.

btw my app's showing 41.2% renewables. I think we've come some way in quite a short time in that respect.

ps edit good to know about the capacity of the wind farm.

What pisses me off, is the Labour guy saying in one breath cutting back on spending and then how the UK families deserve holidays abroad.
Nobody pulled him up on that. Surely if you want to slow down climate change stop people going on cheap holidays abroad. The same as the dentist problem, just stop people having a sugar diet.

It’s a nonsense to believe that Labour care any more climate change than the Tories. Despite it being the biggest threat to every one of us, it’s not a vote winner. We live in a greedy capitalist society where those with comfortable lives are not willing to make sacrifices for the good of all. By the time Britain is engulfed in flames and floods, when we can no longer grow food and having money is pointless as there is nowhere to spend it, most of us will be long gone.

The country is over populated. It’s self sustaining at 33 Million people. Increasing the population by half a Million people each year is a huge problem. Even you can see that.

You really, really, really wouldn’t like my suggestions. Funding green initiatives by taxing those who can afford it, nationalising the industries that cause most pollution, cancelling the nuclear deterrent and ploughing the money into energy generation. I imagine you’re spitting out your Chablis already.

The energy thing we touched on the other day. Some days we actually produce enough energy to power the grid, we certainly do most nights. That doesn't heat gas CH or power ICE vehicles.

Taxing 'people who can afford it'..what does that mean and where do you draw the line..40% taxpayers so 6 million people ?

I thought you were going to suggest people holiday in Bournemouth rather than Benidorm.

I think the UK is doing its bit but shouldn't really stop totally (Starmer isn't) . The onus should be on assisting developing countries as they are the current problem.

33 million? It hasn't been anywhere near as low as that since the 1870s and has been growing consistently since then. It's been 150 years of unsustainability by that measure.
