Richard Hughes

Hopefully we are going for a recruitment setup which features more than one key figure in the future. If Bill is serious about progressing the club, we need to have a proper recruitment department with various analysts and whatnot shortlisting realistic targets.

Then it can be one person's job to try to get the signings over the line.

Hopefully this can be a small step towards the professionalisation of the football club.

Maybe this is where the new investors from another US family come more into the picture.

Is there anything official on this..........reason I ask is I want to be prepared for the game where my seat has been sold to the highest bidder but the club forgot to tell me

Well as the club evolves under the Americans ownership, I suppose it is another step to try and fix an area that is crucial to our survival. I would assume that there is a plan in place to replace Richard Hughes?
Hopefully we can gain someone who can piece together what we need to remain at the top table.
What makes it more interesting is that one thing that may be required is the recruitment of a new manager if things don't improve over the coming months.
Now I am not sure exactly what role Blake fulfils? I can't see that he will be left with the keys to the transfer vault.
We can procrastinate until the end of time which transfers have gone well and this that haven't and to be fair it is the same at EVERY club that some fall short and others do okay...look at Man United for that example!

I wish Richard well and thank him for his application to the club....

Onwards and ???????

Plenty of prem clubs screw up transfers for big signings, just as many businesses screw up big investment projects. Think re the latter the success rate is well under a 1/3rd and as low as 10% in some sectors; so, interesting if anyone has tried to empirically prove prem league transfer success rates? Must be a study somewhere!

Bill Foley is a very, very successful businessman. He’s also got a pretty good track record of managing sports clubs with the Knights success and all that. If he has now come to the conclusion that our recruitment hasn’t been good enough, fair enough.

I’m not going to sit here and pretend I wasn’t excited by this window, but in hindsight, there are more than a few strange decisions. Main issues for me being the lack of a clearly defined strategy with the signings and how they would fit into the team, and the lack of signings that seem to have been signed to compliment AI’s style of play.

The lack of a competent specialised left back to compete with Kerkez has already cost us points. The lack of a specialised CDM to compete with Cook has cost us points. The lack of a competent striker to compete with Solanke may well have cost us points. And IMO, the lack of PL experience and seniority in the starting lineup has been incredibly destructive so far. These aren’t exactly secrets, either.

We perhaps shouldn’t have signed Traore in hindsight, which is £20 ish million that could’ve been spent on Viña and someone like Stephens with change. But then, there didn’t seem to be much of a plan for who’d actually be in charge this season, and the fact that it was a loan with an obligation to buy has snookered everyone involved a little. Which is a shame because I think Traore is a good player.

The Adams signings is a car crash. Another good player, but one that no one else wanted to sign for his injuries. If there was one position we needed to get right it was CDM, with Lerma leaving and the role’s importance in the new strategy. I’m a bit surprised we didn’t just go for Rayo’s CDM, a player that would’ve had invaluable experience in this specific style of play and probably been cheapish. Could’ve also been AI’s “guy” in the dressing room. Idk.

I’ve said it before but I think we should’ve gone for a Newcastle-lite approach. A few exciting Hollywood signings if it’s needed, in amongst sensible, seasoned pros. To this day, the way we messed Viña around and then proceeded to not even sign him is one of the most baffling misfires I’ve seen from a board perspective. A goal threat from LB who was solid defensively, available for £13 million. Literally why not? And the way he hung around in Bournemouth for like 2 months leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth, not a fan. It seems like we saw an opportunity to get another FM wonder kid and then ditched the whole idea. I like Kerkez, but he’s not been any better than Viña - and we could’ve had both, couldn’t we?

Going off on a tangent now. It’s fine margins and I’m not someone that’s going to clamour for Hughes or Blake to lose their jobs. I don’t know enough about that world. But I can see why the decisions been made, and ultimately, I think Foleys (informed by advisors) instincts have been pretty good so far. I think ditching O’Neil was “harsh” but absolutely correct, and I think backing AI is correct.

Working your notice doesn't mean it's the employee who wants to leave.
The company who employed me wanted to change my daily hours and also work weekends.
Anyhow I refused for personal reasons, and therefore went on "three months notice of change of contract".After the notice expired I left the company after 26 years service.

Lowe - 1.5M
Pearson - 700K
Rothwell - Free

Hardly 'a lot of money' these days.
Rothwell has been a good signing after an injury hit start to his afcb career and Pearson started to play in the prem last season before he was injured (at liverpool I think) and would have covered a lerma injury before January recruits came in

I think Moore and Dembele were the “get us over the line” signings with lowe when cash was tight and each player played their part in going up with the hope at least one would step

Most of this is just hindsight is it not?

We've got three CDMs including Scott who is excellent there. Sure Adams is turning out to be poor but if there wasn't an injury risk he wouldn't be here.

I think this left back issue is overdone too. Vina wasn't exactly Ashley Cole defensively so who's to say we'd have more points if we'd signed him? Buying two £15m left backs is completely unrealistic imo.

Striker, I agree we are short. Easier said than done in that position though.

I doubt you recruit someone of Hughes' position in a short time.

Mutually agreeing a few months notice period to keep the ship steady. Allow for a headhunting exercise. In return for a thank you payment upon leaving, and giving a few months to figure out your next plans, a holiday, put feelers out for another job etc. There's worse ways to go about it.

Speculating of course.

Biggest need at the moment imho is senior leadership on the pitch. Someone that’ll hold his teammates accountable.

I’m guessing Neil is out celebrating with a Bellini but will soon be along to tell us what’s going on.

The forum holds its breath.

We could be short at left back if Lloyd decides to go in January. I'm sure that Vina was being quoted at 6 million Euros, not too shabby for a PL ready back up who by all accounts wanted to be here.
