Storm Ciaran

So in the end, the storm took a more southerly track and the centre is passing pretty much over us ( pressure just bottomed out at 954.5 hPa about an hour ago) keeping the worse of the winds to the south.
Jersey >90mph, one location in northern France recently had a gust of 129mph! Even Portland recorded 66mph, so it's clear how quickly the wind tapers off ayou go north...

Here, the wind will probably get up in the next 2-3 hours, but shouldn't be anything too severe compared with further south. The amber warning being downgraded yesterday indicates the MO were very confident about the track of the low by that stage, and were spot on.
 
When I were lad we would said a windy day with some rain, now it requires a silly name like it is the end of days
