I agree. Otherwise, whenever they had a free kick just outside the box the attacking team could get one of their players to stand immobile in front of the goalkeeper, impeding his view of the ball. Clearly that would be offside as interfering with play, albeit without touching or moving towards the ball.

If someone ends up directly in front of the goalkeeper in a general melee of players it is equally offside in my opinion, assuming the attacking player is standing in an offside position.
