Southampton v AFC Bournemouth

Let's start with the two gifted goals we gave them thanks to third world defending from Steve Cook and Gosling, bottlers.

Forgive me but what role did Gosling play in either of the goals? Actually for the first goal I would say Cook and Gosling were the ONLY two players actually trying to get back and recover. From memory L. Cook, Aké and Fraser all put in half-hearted efforts when far better placed than Cook or Gosling.

S. Cook made the error for the second goal but I thought Aké was the worst of our back 3 today.

You thought Ake was the worse of our back three ????

Just seen it on MOTD Fraser's shot at the end was unlucky not go in - great save. Like Shearer said though, awful defending....but that's the risk in our style with ageing job-done players in some positions. So it boils down to naive tactics in this league ..60 goals conceded.
But then, if that shot went in - 90% reduction in these negative posts!!!
My take is- DUBAI , NO NO NO NO NEVER AGAIN!!!! It does not work! And a false sense of security generated by the hype around Lewis Cook - not his fault though! He is a great addition but too much expected from a young player in his first serious season here! 3 new defenders needed and Defoe to the coaching side where he would be of some use!

Fans are always quick to label the most recent defeat as the worst ever but in this case I'd challenge you to think up a worse performance this season or indeed in our life in the Premier League.

Since you ask the ones this season that spring readily to mind are West Brom away and Watford home right at the start of the season and Huddersfield away. Others on a par - West Ham away and Burnley at home. Also some of the games against the big six were poor but we have more of an excuse against that quality.

One from last season that sticks in the mind is Middlesbrough away - long trip for what was produced that day from memory.

In order to score you have to have shots and test the keeper. Today we had 7 on target, not all great I admit, but we have only had more in 3 games this season. That to me does not suggest our worst performance, not the way I look at games anyway.

I think the fact that it was Saints, and the fact we blew a chance to help relegate them, made it feel a lot worse.

First, we are safe. There is a slim but very slim chance we would get pulled back into it.

However I cannot fail but be disappointed after that. The second goal especially was poor and despite a good finish we should have dealt better with it.

It seems like the lads weren't as up for it as the fans were having reached the position we have. A lost opportunity. However it would be good to go out with a bang against Swansea next weekend.

Southampton will still go down, Everton will beat them next weekend

Feel too sick to review it anymore so I am going to try and move on to hopefully 3 points next weekend.

They still get paid and a good amount to, more than most of our fans earn. It’s there job, if we are safe or not they should still give 100%.

Well I don't know what game you were watching then, Gosling tried to be clever and got dispossesed by Tadic on the half way line and they want on to score, he was trying hard to get back because he phucked up in the first place, likewise Cook when he phucked up 3 times and tried hard to get back each time. Even more infuriating was that their 1st was from our own corner.

Without Ake we would've let in 5 as we would do every game to be honest because our defending is that pathetic, Ake was always covering Daniels position aswell as his own as Daniels was quite simply being a lazy c~~nt again which he's been all season. Then don't get started on the front 3 who were nonexistent, Ake was our best attacker and threat throughout the game because everyone else apart from Fraser (wasted as a WB another poor decision) were phucking dreadful.

We saved the Saints. That’s all I can say to my two gloating saint supporting neighbours and that’s bloody difficult as for the first time in months they are flying their flags o/s their houses across the road.

When you look at the comments on different threads about how disappointed we were with our team yesterday and then read these stats, as a neutral they would think it was sour grapes on our part.

Possession
Home 41% Away59%
Shots
Home 14 Away14
Shots on target
Home 6 Away 7
Corners
Home 5 Away 8
Fouls
Home12 Away11

Statistics mean mean little. It is a long time since I have experienced such agreement about a game amongst fans with decades of experience.

It's time for a bit of disagreement then. I thought they were well up for it, and did well in the first 20, after halftime, and last 20.

If we just hadn't given such stupid suicidal balls away, maybe 10 times, it would have been totally different.

Couldn't agree more mate

Yes. Instead of banging a nail in we prised one out. I suspect if Saints were 8th like last year and it was Everton we played yesterday there wouldn't have been half the meltdown there is.

It’s not that we lost, but the way we lost that probably has upset most fans.

More like who we lost to. The build up to this one, and the chance to be part of something that would have been south coast history, causes this to be so much more disappointing. Per AFCBfan above, had it been vs. Everton, we would have lamented the "stupid suicidal balls", but we would have also been bucked up by the two great late scoring chances that McCarthy turned away.
Glass half full says that we will give Swansea what-for when they come to DC next week. Then a point vs. Burnley to round out the finish.

Glass half empty says (1) we won't take another point this year, (2) Swansea and Soton will manage to both get to 39 points (3) Huddersfield will manage 4 points in 3 games vs. Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal (4) Brighton will manage a point vs. Man City, Liverpool and Man United. On Brighton, one might well say - "anyone can manage a point in the PL by just playing 10 men back". Well, it that's so, I hope we freakin' well do that next Saturday!!

Boy this past few weeks have been exhausting. I tune in every week, watch all the PL Today coverage, enjoy this forum and all the other on-line info. But, I think we all need a reset, including the team, and I can't wait for the summer break before 2018-19.

Yes it was also who we lost to, but for me it was the way we laid both of their goals on a plate that was annoying.
Quite true - and there were other incidents as well. I haven't seen it, although there is a lot to pour through, but has anyone mentioned how Asmir saved our bacon a few times to keep us in it?
