Ake on his way ?

If someone offered you a 300%-500% pay-rise and the chance to be publically associated with one of the most prestigious companies in your industry would you turn it down because the smaller company at which you currently work has a good atmosphere and seems to be doing well?

Factor in your decision making as you in your 20s and then add in the fact that in your industry you have a career that lasts about 15 years.

It's a fact of life in football. EH could lead us to the PL title and CL glory and we'd still lose players to the traditional big clubs.

Spurs couldn't stop Bale leaving them for Real Madrid. Man Utd couldn't stop Ronaldo from leaving them for Real Madrid.

Carry on as we are and we will 100% lose players we don't want to leave. That isn't the problem. The problem is ensuring we get top dollar for them and the reinvesting that money wisely, both on the pitch and off it.

Yeah, very good points, and I cannot disagree ... left-brain vs. right-brain I guess. I can cite many instances during my career where people moved from a job/company that they loved to one that paid more .... and were miserable. Or failed in the new environment and ended up with their tail between their legs. But Ake has the world by the b**** right now.
I suppose that given the past, the problem of "ensuring we get top dollar for them and the reinvesting that money wisely, both on the pitch and off it" is hardly the worst scenario.

Well of course you wouldn’t but I don’t think those numbers are accurate in Aké’s case. If we are paying Defoe £65k we could pay Aké that too.

I really don’t think any club would offer him £195k to £325k a week! Spurs wouldn’t even offer him £50k. Of course if Man Utd come along and dangle £80-90k then we need to be realistic. I just don’t think he’s going to be pushing for a move in the immediate future.

One of the journalists on twitter, when responding to a lack of AFCB presence in the England squad, suggested there might be a perception our players only look good playing for our manager. I don’t necessarily agree with that, I think our players are right up there in talent levels now, but I can see why some people might hold that opinion.

I can imagine people thinking that. There's still a certain snobbery, well he played in League One he can't be England standard can he. So instead pick kids because they've been around mega clubs the whole time. I am amused that EPPP allowed the big clubs to pick off all the talent in their area and loan out 40-50 players a season. Yet the current world champions not long ago went down a centre of excellence route like we used to have at Lilleshall but got rid of

We were discussing about rumours of Ake linked with other clubs before the game yesterday.

One point put more money and playing at a bigger club would lure him away.

I suggested he already has been at a bigger club (Chelsea) and at best was on the bench most of the time or out on loan.

Since he has been our player he has played regular football under the eye of our manager who has also coached him.

Our club and Ake have both benefitted from this.

Bigger money and possibly sitting on bench again at a bigger club or playing regular football and being coached by one of the best coaches in this country in Eddie and his assistant Jason?

It depends I suppose what the player puts as a priority, money or playing regularly.

Chelsea had him on the bench because they saw him as a youth team graduate and they rarely, if ever, get given a run of games there.

If he moved to another top six club it would be because he's seen as a first choice CB and would therefore expect to play. Or, at least, given the chance to play to prove his worth. I doubt anyone would sign him for £40-50 million with the intention of putting him on the bench.

He missed the best chance of the game yesterday putting a free header straight at their keeper. Christensen can't get a game at Chelsea and now he wants a move. The young guy Ampadu who injured Defoe also can't get a game. So quite a few decent defenders out there who can't get a game. Footballers want to play.

Embarrassing how we all think no player should ever leave here.

Isn't it? Why would Ake not believe he's good enough to play for United at the moment, or Spurs when they lose a key defender? You can bet your bottom dollar that his boss tells him the sky is the limit, not AFC Bournemouth.

As long as we are thinking we are Tinpot ( and it still runs through these threads quite strongly) it will feed into the minds of Ake, Cook and Brooks etc. We have to cut off this Anchor and sail out of the backwaters or we stay below Everton, West Ham and Watford( yes Watford!) in terms of progress!!
(The fact that Bale and Owen went to Madrid makes Spurs and Man U seem larger versions of Tinpot....despite the c##p that Savage spiels.) Steps are made to be Climbed so we need to build our own!

Of course the only reason we think this way now is because of the Stadium situation, everything else is in place!...if we don't sort the Stadium, Ake and the others will climb up those other Steps!!

Every club is a selling club . The only difference is how much we can afford to hold out for .
Ake came here to get playing time . I’m not saying he doesn’t put in a 100% or love the club but let’s be honest with ourselves , he would rather be walking out in front of 60k fans every other week than a club that worldwide still gets something of a confused look when mentioned ..

This is starting to Grip my Turds Now!
SO....we come up from 3 Divisions below...get established in the PL ..on the verge of Euro Football...and in the January Window we Sell Ake to Man Utd for £85 mil....L.Cook to Man City for £100 mil and Brooks to the F#cking Moon for another €200 mil ...No!.. let's ' Hold Out' in case F#cking Real Madrid hijacks the Rocket and offers €300 mil if they can have Mingo for an extra €50 mill. !!

I think you have a good point, Bill - although not necessarily in those words!

I think Eddie will say to any player who receives a bid in January - please give it until the end of the season - help us achieve something, and I won't stand in your way then - providing the offer is good enough

Must be worth 50 mil now. 23 year old premier league proven center back who scores goals aswell.

In my opinion,we should hold out for the same money Van Dijk went to Liverpool for,£75m.
Here's why
1- He's a Dutch International,the same as Van Dijk
2-He has more Premier League appearances under his belt than Van Dijk did when he moved to Liverpool.
3- He is the best centre back playing outside of an elite club in the Premier League, the same as Van Dijk was.
4-Allegedly 3 elite clubs want him.

If they all want him,let them pay,can we trust our board to get the right deal for the club if it comes to it,or will we bend over and get our pants pulled down by the elite?
