Next Manager Betting Odds

Not sure it matters who you appoint unless you sort out frailties in the squad; no doubt we get a honeymoon period and lots of positive echo interviews re the new manager followed by same players going awol in games when pressure is on.

Woodgate 4/1. Only has to last until 13th March for the bet to be paid out. Could be earlier if we beat Burnley.

Given what he achieved with Motherwell, and being available, why isn't Stephen Robinson more fancied? His experiences surpass Terry, Lampard, etc.

Managed in Scotland, ex NI international, so wouldn't be a pushover in the dressing room. External enough to skip over the recent history but with an understanding of the true heritage.

He was part of a team brave enough to play their way out of relegation in 95 and would be suited to get most out of us too.

I realised I should have added Goals scored and Goals conceded to the formation table. There's too few games to make any real comparisons, but there looks a trend that playing 1 up front with two behind, or three up front, didn't bring more goals, and also conceded more than playing with two up top.

Does this cater for formation changes during games or only starting formation?

Not sure that cv indicates enough stature to command respect from our players. Several levels below lampard, Terry etc in terms of standing/reputation within the game.

No idea what he's like as a person, but there's a big difference between motherwell and a top championship club. playing for a very poor NI 15 plus years ago where they had L1/2 players doesn't mean much to me.

Just looked up his record at motherwell and Oldham.

Well, if we appoint this guy, we've got bigger problems than I thought.

Need to be thinking bigger than this, already wasted 6 months with the woeful tindall appointment.

I’m not sure. I’ve taken the data from a third party (footballcritic) so have to take it on trust. Also aware that the 532 and the 352 could easily be confused. Still thought it was interesting particularly the amount of changes and the 2 up top vs other formations.

Here’s hoping the next manager sticks to one.

Here’s to hoping he doesn’t. There’s more to football management than selecting a formation and hitting go

agreed that it shouldn’t be written in stone, but I’d still much rather we have a plan A that the majority of the times we play than flitting between plans A to G. I’d imagine that for most successful teams you could more or less name the 11 each week, with maybe a couple of swaps to rest players (assuming the starting 11 aren’t injured). I’m struggling to name many players who are nailed on for us this season which mean partnerships can’t form. There has been too many times this season where I’m explaining that it wasn’t just a bad pass or a bad run, but the fact the two players thought a different move was happening.

i welcomed the tactical flexibility of Tindall at first, but it felt like we had strangers out there at times. Maybe saying largely the same players, with subtle tweaks to formation would have been better, but I didn’t want to over complicate it. I still do hope a new manager will say, I want to play this way, here is my starting 11, they are good enough to beat the opposition, let’s impose our system. Edit, and to have the nous to change it when it isn’t working!

Don't buy into this stature stuff otherwise Woodgate having been at Real Madrid trumps Lampard and Terry maybe. We don't need a short term bounce because everyone is in awe of a new boss only to have that eroded when they realise that they are not all that by the time the run in arrives. Why would a player respect a guy who just spent a fortune at Chelsea and got the sack because he couldn't manage them.

I suspect based on the feedback he got when he resigned from Motherwell that he can command a dressing room. He picked up a relegation squad, improved finances and players, made it to 2 cups finals and got into Europa League. My point about NI is not one of playing ability but character - team known for playing with passion. He only left because having got to 3rd he knew the club didn't have resources to catch Celtic or Rangers, so it impacted performances and he thus resigned.

I have never met these guys but I think we need the sort of lift Mel gave us, and don't think it's any surprise that Eddie emerged from that. Robo was there too, so I am still surprised he isn't being mentioned. Doesn't mean I think or know he would be good. But he is more than worthy of a decent mention.

Considering we need to achieve a minimum of 2 points per game going forward, I simply don't understand the logic if we appoint Terry with no experience. At least Lampard has some.

Realistically for autos we'll need closer to 2.5 ppg.
