Scott Parker

what about football players at the Olympics are they athletes
and also footballers are just footballers but pole vaulters are athletes can you explain the difference please?

Well all ive got...is that footballers play football...a team game..and what I see as athletes, they do athletics...most of which involves speed, jumping..recording of times and distances...and throwing things.
Why not keep it simple like that.
If what I say doesn't stand up as an argument...well then that's too bad for me..I'm not going to fret over it...its just a sort of 'chuck away' opinion.
If we resist posting such trivial stuff on a Forum in a close season...the general content gets a bit thin.
Going against the grain is a healthy pastime...it generates conversation.
.and exercises the brain.

Btw, Football at the Olympics has never featured seriously as top level.. .only under-23 stuff as far as I know !

I’m at a loss on this one. Can’t make my mind up, can’t have a strong opinion either way which for those of you that know me will realise is bugging me. The good news is I won’t be able to ‘I told you so’ which is equally as frustrating for me. ;)

I’ve been falling out with myself all day on it. He is a good age, experience at top level, got a championship promotion, speaks well, looks the part and well connected. That’s good!

My ex father in law and a work colleague with excellent knowledge of football are Fulham season ticket holders and say he bored his way out of championship and bored his way out of Premier League twice. That’s bad!

But, tough board to work with, no control over transfers, lots of loans he didn’t want so that’s understandable...

But, had a great squad in championship and set up to draw most key games with a back five....

Aaaggghhhh..... I’m stumped. Totally ambivalent.... hate it!
Similar feelings, but I suppose it beats being totally against an appointment lol at the very least it does give us cause to be optimistic of another push for promotion, as I highly doubt that Parker would swap Fulham for us if we were just looking to consolidate.

Truth is, it’s hard to predict if Parker will be a success or not. Even Eddie back will be rejected by some given his final 18 months at the club. Let’s not forget the club is not as as an attractive option as it was a year ago so think any appointment now will carry some risk.

I didn’t watch Fulham much last season so appreciate that their fans posting here will have much more insight than me.

From afar they looked a chaotic team at the start that you felt were doomed to go down given they were leaking goals 3 or 4 a game. However, Scott turned it around, really tightened up at the back and got a number of loan players to gel. In some of the games I saw around the mid point, Fulham seemed bright attacking wise and created chances that should gave won more points. At January transfer window felt Fulham had a decent chance of catching at least one from Burnley, Brighton and Newcastle. However faded badly and others picked up points.

Only 3 teams in bottom half let in less goals than fulham last season: Villa Brighton and (by 1 goal) wolves. Sounds like Parker realised he had to tighten up at the back if he had any chance and January recruits like Maja weren’t good enough to get the necessary goals.

I think if Bournemouth are to have success we need to tighten up defensively which Parker will do and I believe he will want to play a passing game that suits Afcb’s DNA. He must have been reassured that we will have a decent budget and want to challenge for automatic promotion otherwise wouldn’t come here. The big risk is we don’t have the quality up front that Parker’s approach needs to achieve success if danjuma billing and brooks get sold.

Either way, good to get the manager in place and get on with the developing the squad who are hungry to give it 100% every game.

Is today the day that the teddy bears come away from the picnic...and we gets one of them 'unveiling' hookums with enough sugar to sweeten Hell ?
It would be a bit odd with the football fraternity focussed on the England/Scotland gig !
So im expecting it to shift into next week or later !

I’m going to agree with Neil!

The best thing about this potential appointment is that it signifies a certain level of ambition or Parker wouldn’t consider it while his stock is still reasonably high. But maybe Max has reeled off a similar statement to him like he did to the fans at the start of last season and then just doesn’t follow up on it?
Don’t know what he is like as a manager, imagine there will be a fair few negative Fulham fans running him down as he got them relegated, but they were a pretty poor team.
Certainly seems better than some of the other options we could have landed.

I totally agree . I think we are looking for a manager that is a medium fit not a short term fix .

I think the issue with Fulham fans and Mitrovic is they wanted him to play . The problem when you are smaller side in the premier league you depend a lot on counter attacks. Similar to when we had glen murray both lack pace and you need pace up top.

I remember going to Southampton and Man City away and we played a front 3 of Murray Pugh and ritchie . No pace and so easy to play against

Finding a new manager hasn’t been easy, not just for our club either.

Fan power.

Tottenham had moved for Gennaro Gattuso after calling-off the deal for Paulo Fonseca but talks have ended following a fan backlash on social media that included the 'No to Gattuso' hashtag

Parish and the sporting director, Dougie Freedman, have been leading the search for a manager. Parish said on Tuesday that it had been “challenging”. He told the BBC: “We have to find the right person to help us do that. Not only immediately but [someone who] will also help us with the young players we want to bring through. So, it’s a big decision, these things take longer than you would like.”

Hi all, received the message below from my mate that works at Fulham.
The fulham contract is holding it up. They want compo but Bournemouth can't afford it. Parker says he will walk but again Fulham will only accept his resignation and let him go if there is a clause he won't go to Bournemouth as they want compo.
Spurs back in the mix aswell now. His agent is touting him around to other clubs too.

looks like this is going to drag on and on for a while longer yet….
