Players To Come In For Next Season?

Seems strange no one has gone in for him .....

Alongside Cookie, I thought he was great for us last season.

Would have thought that CCV would want to stay in the Prem if he can, especially with Newcastle's reported interest!

Luckily for us, we seem to have a ready made replacement in the form of Mepham! He had a good few games with Wales and hopefully can step back into the central defender position going forwards!

I see that former England International Jack Rodwell has been released by Sheff Utd. Could do a job in central defence? - especially if we are unable to sign CCV?

Perhaps we should also be looking to try and sign Charlie Wyke to beef up our striking front especially as he seems be out of contract as well?

In any event it appears that we will need to sign at least one decent striker if we are serious about promotion, especially if we lose Danjuma!
No way jack rodwell. Always injured

I get that it’s pre season and people are just chucking random names out there, but Jack Rodwell? Really? Do you have any knowledge of his previous career or injury record. We’d be better off relying on Kyle Taylor and Kilkenny.

Rodwell was loudly booed every time he touched the ball, when we played Sunderland up there. There's got to be something going on when you're that unpopular with your own fans : )

I think he was their highest paid player but was absolutely terrible for them.....seems that there was no relegation clause in his contract and he just sat there on a massive contract despite the fact that they told him they couldn't afford it and wouldn't play him......he didn't seem that bothered about playing tbf.

If reports are right, he was on £70k a week :eek!:......so cant really blame him for sitting on his ****************......he has a contract and presumably knew no one was going to offer anything like that sort of money so sat there and raked it in...yes Sunderland were in financial difficulties but that's not his fault. Having said all that no way would I want him here

Forget the money, he's just not good enough. Looked a promising youngster but got no way near the levels people thought he would.

3 games for England is not a good level?

Could surely still do a job in central defence?

Yes, he was a random name I pulled out of the air lol! - However I did suggest a pay per play deal due to injury record!

Another random name is Wyke who seems to have just left Sunderland. A proven goalscorer who could bolster our attack?

As a youngster at Everton he looked like he'd have a great career, the move to City seemed to do him in. He never made a competitive appearance for England either, 2 sub appearances and, strangely enough, didn't lose a game playing for England. That was 8 years ago though. His career has gone massively backward and I don't think he's good enough. He's predominantly been a centre mid but has appeared at the back. Not one for me.

I've not seen Wyke play but understand he's a big physical striker, does well attacking crosses apparently.

Yes you did, I was simply saying that money (that you also mention) shouldn't play a factor in anyone's thinking. Not that difficult.
Not sure what point your trying to make.........obviously it is that difficult for me.
So if you were on that money and someone wanted to half it you would say sure no problem ?

If I were on that money I'd be a damned sight happier! It seems we agree with each other on not wanting him at the club. My point is that what he was on doesn't make the blindest difference to the discussion of if he's good enough for us, or even this level.

Also, if I were on £70k a week and then found myself unemployed as he has, yeah I'd take it. As to would I take a reduction just because the club asked me (no idea if they did and I think that's what you're getting at) I'll never know because I'll never be in that situation. I'd like to think that I'd take the club into consideration but money does strange things to people.

It does indeed

Yes, if the shoe was on the other foot and he say got injured on a short term contract, they'd get rid of him. Can't blame him for doing that, easy for fans to say I'd do this or that, but expect most would do the same if in his position- particularly as he was never going to get anything near 70k a week elsewhere.

If Sunderland were stupid enough to offer such an obscene contract to such an average player than that’s on them, not Rodwell. Just as Rodwell can’t expect to leave his contract for free if he had a better offer, Sunderland or their fans can’t expect him to just walk away because they no longer want him. Works both ways.
