Because when he signed, he was from League one as a 23 year old. Smithy has been a long servant here, didn't he sign a deal sometime around 2017. I would think that Stacey is on around £20k p/w max and Smithy £20k p/w minimum.

Right back is now the least of our worries.

I wouldn't mind a complete overhaul of the squad to be honest, probably best to do it over a 2 to 4 year period though. I agree that RB is not a problematic area. That and Central midfield.

If he has his injury problems behind him now, he could be a shrewd investment for the future and add some depth in the meantime. Seems like the sort of player we should be aiming for, young ambitious lower league players with potential to improve and increase their value.

Hmmm....likes a good old fashioned sliding tackle and has an eye for a pass.
So seems like his strengths are winning the ball and picking out a decent pass from time to time. That'll do for a start.

Not sure he had any pace to lose tbh, a good cb who can read the game doesn’t really need it. The main worry would be that he is so used to scoring against us that he subconsciously bangs in an own goal every week,

Was going to say, he always seemed to score against us, which is weird for a defender. We do need a defender or two. As for pace, CCV wasn't quick but made up for it. Neither are Cook or Mepham particularly quick. Maybe we could do with someone more spritely as an option back there somewhere.

As long as his wage demands are realistic, which they should be at his age and in his circumstances, another decent player with plenty of experience for the squad.
He may not be one for the future but he has already been there and bought the T-shirt and he shouldn't break the bank. Fair enough punt IMO.
