AFC Bournemouth v West Brom

Didn't think it was a Canadian thing. I'll use "meh" should it happen again!

What was Blah or Meh about that game?..... thoroughly enjoyable imo.

Positives for me were two very well worked goals and the youngsters that grew into the game.

The negatives were two poor goals conceded and some of the more experienced players disappearing a bit 2nd half.

Will reserve judgement on Parker’s tactics as bit of a one off game against a hard, physical team who to be fair kept their high press going for the whole game.

That was what we expected from West Brom after the ex Barnsley manager joined them and brought his pressing style of game to his new team.

Thought young Anthony did well in his involvement with our two goals.

The first goal he received the ball in midfield then passed to one of his players and moved forward where he received the ball to put a pass across goal into the path of Marcondes who stroked it away, for the first goal of the Championship season after closing the last season for his old club Brentford with the last goal of that season.

Anthony and another young player Zamora involved for our second goal which Billing finished with a good shot to put us back into the lead.

West Brom really had us under the cosh at times with their high press and experienced players and deserved their two goals after the 94 minutes.

Good start to the season against one of the favourites for promotion, with our young players getting valuable league experience under their belt.

AFCB have experienced players to come back in the coming games.

My first game since November 2019. Great to be back in a crowd. Thought going forward we were quite exciting, with one of our weakest possible squads we’ve matched them.

Physicality, as usual, we were miles behind. They were all half a foot taller which made winning the aerial balls so difficult to defend. They bullied us in that respect.

Playing from the back will split opinion, but I don’t see how lumping it up would have done any good anyway, we were never going to win the headers. They did pretty well at pressing us which basically left us no option.

Quick mention for their captain, told the ref to let the ball boy thing go as he made a mistake and then told his player to get up after he dived pretending he got booted in the face.

I won't do it, but this is one of the few games I would be tempted to bet against us on with West Brom at 2/1!

Instead I have bet on us as usual!

Anybody being even slightly negative after that needs a reality check. We had THREE players in the eleven who did not have one single league start between them, at any level! We were playing a goal keeper who with all due respect, isn’t ready to be starting just yet. Given West Brom’s direct style and physicality, given the completely inexperienced nature of our line up, this is the toughest test that we will face all season. Not only did we hold our own but we also arguably had the better chances to win it. Anybody viewing that performance as any less than an heroic effort needs to give their head a wobble.

Couldn’t agree more. Fantastic result, we really need to have some perspective here.

There’s no pleasing some people… no way was that game dull and unexciting.

Enjoyed that more than pleased with a point given our resources. West Brom showed how to press. Some bonus points, some mistakes but we hung on in there under the cosh. Not entirely sure but if we are using zonal marking as unhappy with that as with the faffing around at the back.

Great evening. Massive underdogs, yet the youngsters did us proud against probably the favourites to win the league.

Neither side looked great at the back which made things entertaining.

I’m all for a referee letting play run but I’m not sure a lot of that was by design tonight. Looked clueless at times.

West Brom are a big physical side . They like to press and do it quite well .
The times when we zipped the ball around we opened them up.
A bit more composure on the ball, a little more experience, we are a better footballing side

Great result, I'll take that all day long.

I thought the young guys did really well. A few shaky moments, as to be expected, but they were generally positive and gave their all. Can't complain with that. Great combination for the goal too.

A special mention for Gavin Kilkenny. He was excellent. Recycled the ball well with some added 'quarterback' passing. We've got a quality player there.

Really pleased overall.
