AFCB v West Ham

It's one of those lost in translation things. Poch was speaking to his translators and said "This is an injury crisis, we need the cavalry." The translator hadn't heard of cavalry, Poch mimed it, saying " you know, horsemen? " The translator nodded and replied " Ah! Horseman" : )

You're on the right track table, but what Poch actually said was "For Spurs winning the League is like tilting at windmills. What we need is a Don Quixote", and being Spanish he pronounced it properly.

And he was (and is) god, so numbers don't matter

However, I'd be willing to bet that his assist stats would be much better than Carroll's, it's just a shame that for most of his career people didn't count those.

Very true. Strange to think that assist counting is a relatively new phenomenon in our beautiful game. In recent years assists seem to get mentioned and valued almost as much as goals scored but back in the day basically everyone in the team "assisted" ( because they were all on the pitch when the ball went in the net  ).

Makes you wonder how some of our other players of old would have been valued in these times, where assists are valued almost as highly as goals scored ( or at least get mentioned in the same breath ).

Sky and their statistics on football have become the new American Football type

Just because Sky etc are now showing these stats, it doesn’t mean clubs 20 years ago wouldn’t have been aware of them on there scout reports for players like Fletch. It’s just all this info is more public now.

In fact I’d say the stats you see on Sky are probably 5-10 years behind the actual stats club’s data analysts would use. I’m actually rather surprised the media were so taken aback by Bielsa’s spreadsheets. You can be sure Eddie will have access to similar levels of detail on our opponents (even if it won’t actually have been obtained by spying!)

After missing our game due to rumours he was going to play in China.

This today.

Marko Arnautovic insists he’s ‘very happy’ to sign a contract extension with West Ham after his big-money move to China failed to materialise.

An unnamed Chinese Super League club made a £35million offer to land Arnautovic and the 29-year-old striker was widely expected to leave the Hammers this January.

Arnautovic appeared to wave goodbye to West Ham fans at the London Stadium as he was substituted in the second half of the side’s victory over Arsenal, but the Austrian has decided to make a complete U-turn on his future.

While West Ham did not confirm the length of Arnautovic’s extension, it’s understood the former Inter Milan forward has agreed to one extra year on his contract to see him through to 2023.

Arnoutovic, one minute he has his arms crossed and fists clenched - a hammer through and through, then he is off chasing the chinese dosh, then when they don't want him he rips the hammers off for a pay rise.
Of course he will expect the WHU fans to adore him. Ars.hole.
