How does that even work?
If a club (say Villa) offered more money, the player can always tell his club he won't go there, can't he?
Seems that since all 3 parties (buying club, selling club, the player) have to agree, the player could scupper a potentially more lucrative (for the selling club) deal in favour of his preferred destination.
Right?
Not sure if it’s applicable here but players can have clauses in their contract stating a bid must be accepted for £Xm to a club in division Y. This would mean Brentford were obliged to accept our bid but not Villa’s.

Alternatively it could be that Villa offered more cash up front, but we inserted various performance related add ons that make the total package higher should the transfer be a success.

Yes, Pitman did it when he left the first time from us in League 1, rejecting Blackpool who had just got into the PL to join Bristol City in the Championship.

History suggests us and Brentford are about as similar clubs as you could possibly wish to find. 110 games between the two clubs, almost identically even record of wins/loses/draws, going back as far as the 1920s, sharing a division far more often than not. Of all the clubs to conduct peeing contests between, us and Brentford is rather pointless.

Seem a decent club although something seem to go wrong there before dean smith left as some of their momentum has stalled. Was very impressed by their under 23 side (when I watched Lerma make his debut up there); look a really good passing side.

I'd give it six months and NSC will be saying we paid £25 mill for him!! :grinning:
How it seems to work is that the worse a signing does the more they inflate the fee. Mings appears to have gone from £8m to £10m so a minor failure. Brad Smith on the other hand has gone from £3m to £8m according to Talk Sport. Lerma and Brooks’ fees seem to be unchanged so I guess they’ve been considered a success!

Great news to get this young man on board. By all accounts and considering he's been on the radar for some time, he must be good! What with the other 2 new players signed in this January transfer window, we're going to be unstoppable. That should stick a sock in the mouths of the doubters and worry guts. Expect some brilliant games coming up ! :)

Don't get your hopes up, he's 32... yes it's been that long since we started chasing him.

Anyway, seems really mature for his age and obviously wants to play for us and at a reasonable £12m, you can't moan for a Welsh international who has played 48 times in the championship. Doesn't sound like much but it is 4 times as many apps as Brooks and look how good he is.
