Harry Wilson

Seems to me he's a bit of Knockaert. Almost too good for the Championship and will regularly play for teams going up or getting close to it. Then unable to influence things in the PL enough so is moved on to the next promotion hopeful.

I can't criticise him for not being good enough and I wish him well. There were performances where he ducked challenges or didn't put in the tracking back that was costly. Then were some good free kicks.

he has the ability to be in the right place at the right time as far as goalscoring goes, that alone will get him a long way
Unfortunately he scores spectacular goals, and in our case Villa aside often consolations. Not the more bread and butter chances that really mattered, such as against Spurs and Southampton that would have kept us up! Not wholly his fault many of the goals were consolations of course. But he needs to do the basics better.

Someone said further in this thread “he’s a luxury player” and for me, that sums him up... When things are going well for the team then he’s probably be a great addition. He just didn’t seem to have the “roll up your sleeves mentality” to get stuck in, even when the team started performing towards the end.

Part of me feels he wasn’t entirely to blame tho as I just don’t think we utilised him to the max... for me he’ll prosper with more of a free role sat behind the front two... ala Brooks.

Decent left leg, and scorer of great goals... and a team that shows more creativity than we did, will probably bring his game on... just the wrong player and the wrong time for us...

and to say he cost us the PL with his two meek efforts v Soton and Spurs... Lloris’ was a decent save, and I’m struggling to recall the Soton effort, but still... bit much to hang that one in him...

Allegedly £25 million last summer. A first season in the PL that knocked 40% off his reported asking price.

Caveat emptor.

Good player....but not ours.....problem with loans from big clubs....terrified of injury..
' under instructions' from the big brother bossman ! ...
" its only Bournemouth - cruise and stay fit".

Dont like that opinion?..suits me...history will Out !

Apart from a few pretty looking early season goals, he didn’t do much. It got really annoying seeing him come on and hearing ‘hear comes Harry Wilson, dead ball specialist, let’s see what he can do’ from a commentator only for the predictable nothing other cost us defensively.

Others have said he was played out of position. Maybe but he had every training session to work on it. Perhaps he was an Ibe...ie looks amazing in training but not in a match. Really don’t know why eddie persevered with him once others were back from injury.

Good luck to him but he didn’t live up to potential as far as I’m concerned and will be another one Klopp palms off on some (other) sucker club for way more than he’s worth.

The rumour mill is really working overtime:

"Newcastle, where Steve Bruce is also keen on bringing in Harry Wilson. The Liverpool winger spent last season on loan at Bournemouth and is reported to be available for £20m. Leeds, Crystal Palace and Southampton are all prepared to duke it out with Newcastle in the battle to secure his services."

£20 Million? What does that make Brooks worth?

you wait those clubs will play him more centrally and he will be very good . We continued to play him on a position that didn’t suit him, in fact when brooks came back he was just as bad in that position .

In fairness, I think they've similar PL experience... Brooks is definitely the more complete player so shuld command more of a fee... However I can't help think we wasted Wilson's loan shoving him out on the wing... A new manager/team will probably play him behind the front line and he'll be awesome...

Sometimes you need to accept that players need to be played where they can naturally flourish, rather than asking them to do something for you and try and mould them into something you want them to be... Resulting in them losing form and costing you...

...I would question Harry Wilson and his work ethic, because when I saw him he never really tracked back and worked hard for the team. I considered him to be a bit of a show pony type...yes had a good free kick in him, but his crossing and passing otherwise was average...if Liverpool get 20 million from him it will probably be from Eddie Howe's new team!

Beat me to it almost word for word :grinning:
In fact when you think about it . We played Wilson in a position he couldn’t play, we persisted with solanke who in general offered next to nothing and we played Fraser who couldn’t be ar@ed. So when we wonder why we didn’t look a threat or score the usual amount of goals I think there are a few of the answers

I think we'll see him pop up once a month with a goal on highlights and miss the other 360 minutes where he's not doing anything. That might confirm to some he's a superstar.
