JT reference aside... Bidens coming in at a potentially handy point in time, with (and I keep fingers crossed) an end game in sight for the worst of the Covid crisis. Just as the vaccine effort gets going, hopefully they'll be able to hit or get near their 100m target, it will see both an economic upswing and a dropoff in Covid deaths all in the first year of the Biden admin. They have quite the potential honeymoon period.

Where things go from there who knows, and it doesn't fix any of the underlying problems. But it'd be a bloody useful start for any incoming leader.

I just get twitchy when the CCP is being held up as a model for anything other than how to be a modern fascist. I'm amazed that people are even trusting them on their infection/death figures.

I’m not sure people do believe their figures and their original cover up of the facts was very damaging. However the way they dealt with it subsequently worked. They don’t hang about in isolating whole cities once an outbreak is identified. Quarantine of people arriving in the country, compulsory use of masks and proper track and trace systems have got them to a point where life is pretty much back to normal.

Problem with surrendering liberties is, it's hard to pull them back...always a reason for a regime to hold onto them, it just evolves:

ref NZ, I received this a couple of days ago in an e-mail from a very alert retiree in NZ. Take it from me that he could be expected to take an eminently professional view of the situation.

"So far, we have got off lightly with Covid but I despair of the cowboys who are returning from abroad, esp. new Kiwis from Asia who think the rules do not apply to them".
 
Oh my f√cking Christ....I've just learnt from the missus ( an erstwhile Trump fan)....that Biden has taken down the Churchill pic in the Oval office...
....this changes things for me sadly...I've supported him up to now...
...guess I should of seen that coming with his Irish 'thing'.
Seems he has forgotten about Hitler and the Jews conveniently - and what Churchill and F D Roosevelt ( a Democrat) did together v Hitler....to sort that out!

God I hate Politics !

Seems it is a bust of Churchill, the same one Obama removed when he was in office.

Biden was financed by the US arms industry. He has now surrounded himself with advisors from the arms industry, which will do very nicely as a payback

I think most are hopeful he simply does better than the last guy. Very happy with his first day executive orders.

You don't become POTUS (or any other head of state of a large GDP country) without being severely compromised. That's the pre-requisite.

The big lobby groups and military industrial complex run the US, not the President.

Other than going on a bit too long at times, I thought he was a breath of 'normal' fresh air after 4 years of ego, bombast and rhetoric.

A good steady start.
