Non - Pandemic

Johnson going on about. Closing of Schools....he hasn't bloody well closed them!

Letters going out to 1.5 million vulnerable people...oh my god...its a far greater figure if you consider the Population is 70 million.
He has already told us to stay indoors...we Get It !

They are odds on to make a pigs ear of this by not focusing on strict, direct ,fast methods to lockdown. Use the Army,.

My advice would be .. Copy whatever the Germans do....they will get it Right !

The Germans aren't yet under full lockdown.

I suspect Cummings didn't say this, but the sad thing is I think its not beyond him to do so:

https://www.theguardian.com/politic...dominic-cummings-argued-to-let-old-people-die

The reply from Downing Street did not dispute in any way the substance of the report that Cummings argued that it was better to let pensioners die:

“The Downing Street spokesman said the claims about Cummings’ viewpoint, made in a Sunday Times article, had not been put to No 10 in advance and contained “invented” quotes.“

That man Cummings really is vile.

Obviously there’s a lot of talk about comparing the UK fatalities to that of Italy as it’s now the worst hit country and the curve doesn’t look favourable right now.

If you take London out of the equation how does it look? I can’t bare try and dig through the figures myself but if anyone else is still looking at it in depth and wouldn’t mind, would that be a more representative figure for the rest of the UK? Just hunting for desperate positives...

On the news they did warn about making comparisons, saying Italys death rate is 10%, while ours is 4%

Still, whats heartening is knowing that if people don't isolate then Boris will be quite cross.

Banging on the desk aplenty.

I don’t think his flip flopping helps. He was all we’ll beat this in 12 weeks, blasé Trumpesque a few days ago.
On Friday it was still fine for the schools to be open and hundreds of kids in the playground at every school, now they’re not allowed in a park playground or be within 2 metres of each other.
The staggered approach in a way makes sense, but getting people to think that something on Friday was fine but on Saturday you’re immoral is hard ask.

I think London is a radically different demographic to here .... that’s the straws I’m clutching.

Massive population, packed underground and buses, 100’s of streets packed ... think Oxford street, Tottenham Court rd etc, busy pubs post work ......

Plus we’ve now got stricter restrictions of movement in place.... they didn’t. And my last straw to clutch uv light, sunshine and spring on the way.

I hope London is not representative of what we will face. At Poole we have the provision currently to ventilate 32 patients (normally 12). Occupancy of ICU beds across the country with Covid +ve 12 %

There are zero restrictions on movement in London or elsewhere in the UK or have I misread your post ?

Without doubt we will have a lockdown, the Govt are tip toeing around the issue waiting to blame the public for enforcing it. Just do it.

The over 70’s and vulnerable should stay away from other people is the message we keep getting.

So why are the supermarkets having special opening times for us when they are all close together queuing to get in?

It doesn’t make sense.

The latest today is 1.5 million vulnerable people should self isolate for 12 weeks. That includes people who have chemotherapy etc.

If they have to go to hospital on a weekly basis for treatment, what happens then? Also the same groups have to go to hospital for blood tests, before the day of the treatment.

Will the blood tests and treatment be put on hold with these new guidelines today that that group can’t go out for 12 weeks?

I have not heard these problems covered.

Italy’s is 10% and ours is 4% BUT it’s obviously a comparison to how many are tested and a percentage made from that. Italy recorded less deaths today and ours stayed pretty consistent I think...

Its an impossible situation . That said even in Italy you can still go shopping or to the pharmacy, hospital , GP etc if you need it .

Its simply advice here in the UK...the restrictions on doing anything other than the above will probably come in next week.

Italy probably has a higher rate given that they have a lot of hospitals completely overwhelmed in Lombardy. We have some under extreme pressure from what I've read but not currently like Bergamo etc.

You've got to follow the advice for social distancing i.e. Limit your interactions as much as you possibly can. If you go out keep 2m away even at the supermarket. If you are worried try and get online delivery or someone to help you get groceries.

If you get a letter about being in the 1.5m then you don't go out at all for 12 weeks. Info will be provided on what to do re. health plans etc. according to today's press conference.

Advice here:

Thanks for that, that is an update from what I read earlier today.

What should you do if you have hospital and GP appointments during this period?
We advise everyone to access medical assistance remotely, wherever possible. However, if you have a scheduled hospital or other medical appointment during this period, talk to your GP or specialist to ensure you continue to receive the care you need and determine which of these are absolutely essential.

It is possible that your hospital may need to cancel or postpone some clinics and appointments. You should contact your hospital or clinic to confirm appointments.

Sorry I meant advice about social gatherings, and pubs , restaurants, cinemas, gyms closing, the 2 m rule . These weren’t in place 2- three weeks ago when London was on the up.

I definitely think not enough info on this, especially on how infectious it is,and i dont think we are getting the full story on it either.
I will admit,i was blase about it last week ,thinking the figures in Dorset gave a minute chance i woukd get infected,i went to the pub after work on Tuesday, and again on Friday,i was actually sat in the pub when Boris announced pubs were to shut.
I have tried to keep social distance but through my job i have worked in four different houses in the past week, plus been to buy diesel, materials for my job etc
Im self employed so have to work until i get told to stop,my partner is also in the at risk group,my father over 70 so not sure what i will do if i do get infected,
Starting to get just a little scared now and taking all the above into account,i think we shoukd have locked down four weeks ago for a fortninght...
