The Newcastle Takeover

Spot on. This could be a fun ride to watch. No players until Jan and the ones that will join a relegation threatened club will not be the superstars the fans are expecting in a million years. Mercenaries and players not in first teams. It will take awhile to settle down… eventually money will prevail as it normally does but not for a bit and relegation could be a real prospect if they don’t get a manager that susses things out quickly and comes with players that understand him.

Spot on. Money will prevail in the end, but with FFP it needs proper planning and a deliberate strategy. Don't agree with Shearer that they need a club builder manager now. They need an interim step being someone who will keep them in the PL short-term while they build the right club structure in the background. A few interim signings with PL class (a bit like Man City initially did with the likes of Barry, Bridge, Bellamy etc.) How do they convince those people to join? Money and promise of the journey to come.

Then once they stay up they can plan a bit longer term etc. A manager to keep them in the PL is not necessarily the same as the one that will take them to the next level.

Whatever happens they are going to have to spend wisely. Everyone knows they have money and it's far too easy to p*** money up the wall in today's game.

Apparently the "authorities" are investigating the Palace banner for racism. To me free speech.

Palace fan group Holmesdale Fanatics has taken credit for the banner - displayed during the 1-1 draw between the clubs on Saturday - on Twitter, and issued a statement.

"The Saudi led takeover of Newcastle has rightly received widespread condemnation and anger," it said.

"To give the thumbs up to this deal at a time when the Premier League is promoting the women's game and inclusive initiatives such as rainbow armbands, shows the total hypocrisy at play and demonstrates the league's soulless agenda where profits trump all."

The PL knew they'd lose in court. What legal recourse is there to stop the Saudi's buying a limited company? Ashley knew it hence the legal challenge that was going on. It was inevitable.

why is this a "police matter"?

Newcastle United have issued an update on matchday clothing for fans.

On Wednesday the club issued a statement which asked fans to refrain from wearing Arabic clothing such as keffiyehs if they would not usually do so.

The statement was a response to some Newcastle fans dressing in what they considered to be Saudi Arabian-type clothing after the club was bought by the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

The statement added that the new owners were not offended but that the fans risked doing something ‘culturally inappropriate’ or ‘causing offence to others’.

However, on Saturday they issued an update which they said would clarify Wednesday's guidance.

We may dislike the Saudi’s views on many issues and they way they run their country but who are we or anyone else to discriminate against them because they have a different set of beliefs or morals. Most of the complaints from opposing fans comes from jealousy

How many points will they get between now and January?
My generous guesstimate ...

Palace .. away ... 1

Chelsea .. home ... 0

Brighton .. away ... 0

Brentford .. home ... 3

Burnley .. home ... 3

Leicester .. away ... 1

Liverpool .. away ... 0

Man City .. home ... 0

Man Utd .. home ... 0

Everton .. away ... 1

They will still be in the thick of it on Jan 1!
So far so good ............. Follow me for spot on predictions!

Talking of possibly Eddie getting the job to the end of season, then they will look for someone long term to get them trophies etc.

Not sure Eddie would take a job on those terms.

Having said that I thought they were well into talks with another candidate.

Interesting use of "them/they/their" when you should've said "him/his". I don't think King Salman is big on flexible gender pronouns.

It's a critical difference between a group of people consensually within a culture that has a different belief system and those on whom its forced via a brutal autocratic regime.

I agree a portion of complaints are around jealousy but that shouldn't blind you to legitimate complaints.

In regards to the whole “it’s just jealousy” thing… Formula One are going to Saudi this season and F1 fans (albeit on social media) have moaned and mentioned not watching the race there this season.

Surprised that you are surprised. Majority of fans at any club would be like a kid at Christmas if their club was taken over by anyone with that kind of money.

See your point....and that appears to be how it is...
I know my views are very much minority on most Football aspects...especially Money !

All the financial stuff is relative to what goes on across all clubs.. Ashley at Newcastle had a fair bit more Money than the hierarchies at Southend and Grimsby...Bolton or Bury...

..and now, it seems, they have a fair bit more dosh than Manchester's Utd and City ..
...its all getting more interesting....and if say, for example Chelsea cleaned up all the PL trophies for the next few seasons...where does it all end for the others ?
We could be heading towards a top 2 or 3 Elite... with the likes of Spurs and Arsenal dropping off and having no more potency than Wolves or Everton...Everton who were once the ' richest' club in Britain and prior to that in Eras past..Sunderland and Huddersfield !
Come on Torquay...catch up !
