The Newcastle Takeover

Besides Eddie another name that has come up for the job is Zinedine Zidane.

Eddie Howe is still keen to become Newcastle United's new head coach despite the fact he was clearly not first choice for the job.

The former AFC Bournemouth boss has already had some contact with the Magpies but is hoping to step that up with face to face talks with Amanda Staveley.

Staveley is spearheading Newcastle's search for a new boss and was left disappointed by Unai Emery's decision to turn down a lucrative offer to replace Steve Bruce.

Howe is keen to bring in his own backroom team and keen to have familiarity around him - with those assurances not forthcoming last summer when he turned down the chance to manage Celtic.

Back then Howe wanted technical director Richard Hughes and coaches Stephen Purches and Simon Weatherstone around him at Parkhead.

Looking at their message boards, the reaction is mixed.

Mainly a bit 'meh' with many seriously underwhelmed by Eddie looking like he's their new Messiah.

personally I'd still be a bit surprised if he actually takes the job.

If it goes through, then putting aside the human rights issues, which is a big thing to put aside, but for any manager out of work, looking for a Premier league job, this is a massive opportunity. Huge funds to back them up, so yes 2 months of coping with the current squad, but after that.
He'd be mad to turn this down
