Eddie Mitchell latest

Everything Eddie Mitchell ever did was in his own best interests, the man deserves no praise.
Part of the clubs history of our rise from virtual extinction to the PL. Love him ? Hate him ? Most like me have no real knowledge of him apart from he stepped in and had a go and played his part. How many people would have taken on the club at that time thinking "there is a lot in this for me".

There's two sides to this. People are right to say that EM brought in Max but don't forget that before the money arrived he was harvesting the players from the squad and not replacing them.

IIRC Zubar came in because we didn't have centre backs and he was available on a free transfer and things were getting a little, shall we say, heated around where all the transfer money was going.

I think it totally around £2.4m in sales at that point which by our historical standards was an insane amount but the manager wasn't being allowed to spend any of it, instead it was being used elsewhere.

The other side of the coin is that he did get Max in and Max then provided the money that add the sheen to the EM reign after Howe had provided the first coat with his managerial prowess.

At the time, EM gambled that he could get Max involved in the club. If he didn't we were in big trouble. The fact the the gamble paid off shouldn't excuse the fact that he took the club to the casino and stuck it all on one big bet. I guess it's lucky we play in red and black so the roulette wheel almost had to be kind.

If Max had demurred do people think things would have gone well? Look at EM's actions up to the point when Max got involved. Then look what happened when they were let loose with Max's money before being moved on from the scene.

He took a chance. He did very well out of it financially. As a byproduct the club happened to get in place a rich investor and the best manager in their history. He might take the credit in the eyes of some but there was an awful lot of luck that fell his way to end with that outcome.

Go on, explain this?

Geezer introduced Max to our club, without him none of the last 8 years would have happened.

The car park was done up by MA Hart, absolutely nothing to do with any of Eddie Mitchell's firms, if that's gonna be your come back.
And what about the fact that before Max was introduced he completely asset stripped the playing squad? And can you tell me where that money went? He got incredibly lucky that is all there is to it, it doesn’t make him any less of a scum bag. Makes me sick to my stomach to hear people praising him. He’s a chancer who no doubt would have happily seen the club fail if it was in his own best interests.

I don't think EM knew Max at the time he became chairman as part of the 5 man consortium in 2009.
There certainly were sales of players mostly after the play off defeat at Huddersfield but the club was broke and losing money hand over fist as had been the case for about 30 years. Max took a 50% stake in Oct 2011 and immediately started injecting cash. EM certainly got lucky with Max but I am just glad that he and the other 4 in the consortium back in 2009 took on the disaster that was AFCB.

When it came to ranting on the pitch, Mr Mitchell was in a class of his own! :grinning:

I have fond memories of him marching aggressively to the North Stand after a 3-0 defeat to Chesterfield and confronting fans.
He then uttered those wonderfully slurred words:
‘The lad in the leather jacket whose eyes seem to be popping out of his head. Why don’t you jump over the fence and come and have a chat with me?’

And then of course his wonderfully sweary and sloshed phone call to Radio 5 concerning Mrs Demin:

Ah.....Mr Mitchell.....whatever you think of him...he was dashed entertaining!

Some very amusing antics from him, in a car crash kind of way.

No strong opinions on him, who knows the truth. I lean more towards him being involved at start of tge most exciting/successful spell in our history, which may not have happened if he wasn't with us. So deserves benefit of the doubt for that alone.

Always been a divisive subject on here. Some people clearly had personal issues with him and just would not shut up about it, spinning every action into a negative.

On the other hand, he was no saint.

Many seemed happy with what he did, because he was 'our' Eddie Mitchell, bless him.

Had much of the stuff he attempted happened up the road we would have pissed ourselves laughing.

For the record.

I have never owned a leather jacket.
