Jack Simpson

Bit part unproven youngsters who haven’t pulled up trees in the second tier of English football being targets for the runaway leaders of the Scottish league.

Does that show the real level of our youth team system or Scottish football?

The real improvement in the quality now coming through our Academy stems from the great strides we have made as a football club in the last six or seven years.

When we were in league two we would be scouting 14 to 16 year olds who we saw developing at a lower league 1/2 level.

When we became Championship/ Premier League we had to change our focus and scout young lads from top end premiership teams but even that was initially a problem as Academy wise we could only offer regular games against west country academy teams.

So we had to offer another incentive with educational links with Leaf Academy and Brockenhurst College with the lads being well looked after with host families. Also opportunities to be loaned out to clubs at various levels of the football pyramid.

Joe Roach has done amazing work in establishing our Academy.

Why would we get compensation for Oforborh? I thought that was only within the same association?

Must be an agreement with the Scottish FA. Presumably Oforborh has been offered a contract by AFCB and turned it down so being under 24 we can expect compensation for bringing him through our Academy.

Simpson is 24 so compensation wouldn't apply in his case.

All excellent points, completely agree. Plus Scotland is a bit ****************.

In answer to your question a bit of both, but more so the standard of Scottish football imo. Anyone remember Billy Mckay? Striker who scored about 2 goals in 2 seasons for Northampton. Then went on to regularly bag 20+ in the SPL. It really is a joke of a league.

Have been watching the Betfred cup games on Freesport. Bit like Sunday local league at the park at times. And also the Hero league in India is a bit like that at times.

Yep, stays with us until the end of the season though. Fair enough.

Frantic negotiations to sell him now. The fact they've got the pre-contract settled will slash his price and value as they know we can't sell to anyone else.

Don't you think that as an academy graduate and competent backup should we have an injury crisis, the club would be happy to let him see out his contract ? It's not like he's totally hopeless and would under no circumstances get another game between now and season's end. I'd like to think that we'd be happy for him to stay. The £3.50 we might get for selling him now isn't going to make much difference to us.

EDITED:
Sorry DJ misinterpreted what you were saying, now corrected.

Besides, the lad probably WANTS to go to Rangers, it's a decent move for him, so he probably wouldn't accept any other move we line up for him anyway.

Is he going to be fully dedicated to us now his future lies elsewhere? Will he put his body on the line for goal saving tackle just months before what he considers a dream move?

Even if he is, those questions will hang over him by the staff and teammates.

Get shot, whatever we can get can go on someone who could be fully committed.

In training he always seems very happy to be here and I'd like to think he has the character to see out his time here in the right way.
But yes, I get your point. Save the wages, pocket a few hundred thousand and we'll probably cope without him somehow.

I think you've convinced me ;)

answers are no - mark mcadam said it's highly unlikely he'll feature for us again

Phil Gullliver.....Scott Guyett....Stephane Zubar...Bailey Cargill....Matthieu Baudry....Brad Smith...Elliot Ward....Sylvan Distin....I will add Simpson to that list of defenders then now!

with Steve Cook..Chris Mepham..Lloyd Kelly...we will probably have enough to cover central defence? (barring injuries of course!)

Reported on The Echo he has signed a pre contact deal so just ignore him now. He can train because he is contracted to us and to deny would not be right but don't select him.

If we're not going to play him, but are obligated to pay his wages and provide all the other support we owe our players (training, physio, etc.), why not just let him go now for some token fee?
Or maybe Jack is earning more here so wants to stay for the money?
