Non Emma Raducanu

...ironically Emma got knocked by a Croatian with Aussie nationality who lives in Florida?

Let's be honest we have had some less than great 'pretenders' to being GB like Zola Budd...Colin Dowdswell...but also some successes like Lennox Lewis....Johanna Konta etc...

tbf Lewis was born in England and moved to Canada when he was 12. If born somewhere, think that strongly qualifies you to represent that country - assuming you lived there for more than a few days :D

...counts that other Lewis (Hamilton!) out then

Brings back some names from the past.

During this period many of sports greatest stars have played on the centre court. These include Fred Perry, Jaroslav Drobny, Roy Emerson, Ken Rosewall, Rod Laver, Illie Nastase, Doris Hart, Ann Jones, Virginia Wade and Evonne Goolagong.

The Club was also a leader as far as the development of the game was concerned and in 1968 the first 'open' tournament in the world was held at the Club. This was when the games leading professionals lined up against amateurs and Britain's Mark Cox made tennis history. As an amateur he defeated American Pancho Gonzales in a 5 set thriller causing an absolute sensation amongst the press and spectators alike.

That was probably the year. It was a weekday as I was on the way home from college so it would have been an earlier round. Amazing.

Shaky territory and only make these distinctions when it comes to international sport .
But very different circumstances though. I think he even had an English parent? But because he’d represented Canada first and had a clear Canadian accent it all felt a bit forced. Cynically just felt like he could make a better career out of being one of the best Brits rather than just an also ran in Canada.
Could be very wrong though but that’s how it felt at the time.

At least with Emma she’s lived here since being a baby/toddler and was brought up in England so is very much a Brit in my view.

Best of both worlds. Better tennis wise that she has less British tendencies tbh. Probably better mental strength for a start :D

Doesn't he live abroad now in Switzerland or Monaco...maybe wrong but I thought that was the case?

Quite a few do. No one slags Coultard off.

Be good PR for them to pay it anyway. Graham Norton went up in my estimation when he had a go at celebs trying to use loopholes.

Ah as always Lewis Hamilton gets bashed for being the highest tax paying sportsman in the UK. Hes also in the top 3000 tax contributers in the whole country. He alsy donates huge ammounts to chairy.

...you're his accountant!

Lewis lives in Monaco, earns £54 million per year plus £12 million in endorsements. total worth £285 million. (According to Forbes)

Benefits of living in Monaco

I'm sorry if this is a really stupid question but it's something I've often wondered about - in tax haven places like Monaco, where do essential services derive their funds from?

Like do all the rich folks there have to put into some kind of co-op and vote every year on how much to spend on rubbish collection, infrastructure upkeep etc?
