That is why Test cricket is seen as 2nd best in many eyes to an extent .

Hasn’t got the exciting and entertaining play that the white ball game does because England are generally so poor at the latter these days.

Obviously that isn’t what the traditionalists don’t want to see but you can understand why the short form is more appealing .
 
At its best5 day cricket can be the best sport in the world. It’s just those days do not come around often. Wind back to the 2005 Ashes and that was a true sporting spectacle, which built up day to day test by test. It was truly special.

Short form cricket will on a game by game basis have more excitement levels but will rarely hit the same heights and live long in the memory.

The problem cricket has is trying to maintain the standards as it’s a different skill set needed to bat out 2 days of 160 overs in comparison to needing to score 200 runs in 100 balls.

The fact they can’t do short game cricket without the razzmatazz suggests to me it’s all style over substance.
 
About time too. He never really had whatever it is that makes strong captains. Hopefully now he can concentrate on becoming England's best ever batsman and maybe England can find a more inspiring captain.
