England Squad

I’m certainly no Toney or Southgate fan but not sure counting penalty and non penalty goals separately is correct. Could say about Dom’s tap ins etc. Toney has scored everywhere he’s been, in basically every season. I think if Toney came back and hadn’t been playing well and hadn’t scored, then Dom would’ve been in the squad

With the options available, I think it’s a decent squad. He’s not going to drop Henderson this close to a major tournament, especially when you look at the lack of experience in the rest of the squad.

There are PLENTY of people outside Bournemouth dismayed.

Also, its something Ive touched on yet but what message does it send that you can break rules, be banned for almost a year and as soon as you are back you are picked ahead of one of the form players in the league? What terrible optics for junior footballers.

As for your last point, maybe we should take Rooney and Lineker? Southgate is a joke with his selections.

It's a 50/50 decision and other than Bournemouth fans and people who just like to be dismayed about these things I don't think it's that controversial.

Yeah fair point on the second paragraph but imo that's for the fa to decide rather than the manager. You can't expect a football manager to be the moral arbiter of society imo.

A manager needs a decent mix of people with experience and giving new people a go imo.

There is no difference in ability between Solanke, Watkins or Toney...so I guess Southgate has to work out who best. fits his style and tactical thinking.

I can't see England winning owt with that way of playing anyway...it might serve to keep us in the big games with say France and Croatia for 75 minutes...but it lacks the KILLER element !

I’m confused
There seems to be a general agreement amongst a lot of posters that Southgate is fücking useless.
He has taken us to the latter stages of every tournament he has managed - he has lost 14 out of 91 games as England manager.
I suppose it’s the internet curse of everything/everyone either being the greatest thing the world has ever seen, or totally bloody terrible.

Could I venture to suggest that he is somewhere in between.
He has done a decent job as England manager and his record says that he deserves another shot at a major tournament. Personally I will be supporting the team he chooses and hoping for a Euros win.

Looks like some are hoping for an England failure so they can say ‘told you so’. Bit fücking sad that!

If he finishes the season strongly he might get a chance, especially if Toney's form isn't great.

It just seems to me like every England squad announcement is greeted with "its a disgrace" because he doesn't pick people's favourite player. There won't be many outside of Bournemouth who think that it's a disgrace Solanke didn't make it. As for picking his favourites, well you have to have continuity and experience in these tournaments.
Discussion about the England squad on the Friday Night Social , 5 Live .
Clinton Morrison saying that Solanke plays in a Bournemouth team that “ doesn’t create a lot of chances “ :blah::censored:
Fara Williams was full of praise for Dom , pointing out that he not only scores goals but works so hard off the ball for the team and that Toney doesn’t do that , Dom should be in the squad ….

One of the positives Kane has brought to the role aside from raw goals, is intelligent positional and link up play with attacking midfielders around him. England have lots of quality attacking midfielders to get the best out of. This asset comes from Kane’s background in playing deeper earlier in his career.

Does that sound familiar at all? :)
