Bristol City

It’s the job of the recruitment department to identify and secure players that can improve us. It may not be easy but the likes of Fulham, Forest and Brentford last season all managed it despite being favourites to go down. Parker sounds very dissatisfied with how this summer has gone so far, I got hammered on here for saying that we don’t currently stand a chance of being competitive and now our manager has come out and said the same. A few need to open their eyes to the reality of the situation we are in right now, if we don’t recruit quite a few very soon then this is going to be a very long season.

You got hammered on here for going on about how Forest would get automatic. There’s a reason people lay into you and will continue to.

Find someone who says we don’t need some additions…..

Looking at the highlights, I'm not sure that was a penalty. They both barged each other to get to the ball and the Bristol player went down. Pretty soft really.

That's really not a good interview. Suggests he's very unhappy and not seeing the activity he expects in the market. To come out with an interview with such a negative tone just before the season starts is obviously trying to send a message. To say we need help "even to be competitive" isn't great. And what exactly are the difficult circumstances he alludes to? Unless a strict spending limit imposed by the Board?
This was the point I was making about a leader column in a Sunday paper about a lack of activity. It will have come from Parker’s camp.

Parker is finding out what some of us have been saying for awhile. The talent at this club was Eddie. He is now relying on an ex copper who got the job because he was someone’s son in law and a bloke who was Eddie’s mate. Neither to be fair to them should be in the role but they are and they had no plan for this season. I’m glad he has spoken out. I bet they both reinstigated their over inflated PL salary the day we went up.

Responding to this post (rather than automatically lambasting the poster like some do) I agree with KK on this. Reading the Echo article, Parker isn't happy with where we are in terms of recruitment. Hopefully we can bring some new players in, but there's not much time, and Parker seems pessimistic about prospects at the moment.

Hopefully the board continue to stand up to Parker.....i suspect however that they'll eventually cave in and sign the same sort of garbage he signed for Fulham.

You're really bitter and I don't understand why.

It is worrying that just two injuries and we look weak. Big couple of weeks coming up. Need signings early

Although I don’t have a massive amount of time for the executives in fairness Scotty was given massive support in the Jan window and given we were in second he could have been looking at players that could make it in the PL , not ones to just get us over the line .

My thoughts are this. Meps gave away the penalty but I thought he did quite well before this, especially before he needed treatment. For me he was the most commanding of our three centre backs before the treatment. He won his aerials and made some really good forward passes. To say he was easily our worst performer is incorrect I think.

Lerma did a job and passed the ball forward well like Meps did at times. It is a waste him not being in midfield, but he can cover there and has done for his country.

Hill did alright considering his game time. He didn't really do anything particularly special but didn't mess up either. One thing I noticed he looked to the bench for instruction a few times.

Zemura seemed lost as a wing back, isolated without a left winger in support and struggled even more than usual to get back and defend. If he's being played as a wing back, he needs more support from the others.

Smithy isn't comfortable as a wing back. Christie and he didn't link up well. For me Stacey is more natural in this role or Fredericks. Smithy either as a right back or a right centre back.

Billing was playing a little too deep for my liking, but he went on some nice little runs in the second half.

Rothwell looked great. If he's going to play number 8, and Zemura is LWB, they will have to build up a stronger understanding and Rothwell will need to help JZ out more so they can overlap.

Christie huffed and puffed but didn't do so much apart from a nice shot/cross in the first half. He and Smithy just didn't work well together. Christie was lucky to not get booked for some fouls.

Cook did alright but again nothing spectacular.

All in all, today wasn't the best but it was a friendly, so no big deal really. One thing that was obvious to me is that we shouldn't play 3 at the back against weaker opposition. The point of the wing back formation is being able to break when you are doing a lot of defending. When you know you're going to have the ball a lot of the time, this formation doesn't work. We need to be flexible and play this formation against the very strong teams but not against the likes of Southampton, Fulham and Forest.
Tavernier will ease some of the pressure on JZ .

Theyre not mutually exclusive. He does however, express a lot of perceived certainties in that he'll probably claim came from a friendly club contact.

The seasons not kicked off and Neils crying about Blake and Hughes.
Crying? Despairing would be a more accurate description. It doesn’t need a season to kick off for me to form an opinion on the leadership at this football club. What id love to be is in a position to change my opinion when the season kicks off.

Thoughts from the day.

It was a friendly against a Championship team, playing Championship football. If that's our 3 centre-halves in the first match , we're in trouble. But I don't think it will be, so we won't be. If every good chance was converted, we'd have won about 8-2 and still have learnt the same as 1-0 defeat.

Very ambitious of Scottie, trying to change a style of play that was successful last season, with virtually the same squad but in a league higher. I believe they can do it but it's a mighty ask, if they don't it, won't be for the want of trying. can't actually form a definite opinion on one friendly.

Last season didn't we have trialists in the friendlies and loads of youth team players making up the numbers ( I wonder what happened to them )

Now the important things,

If Dean Court served chips, Mr C. Gull would have had a bigger influence on the match. Thought he was good on both wings : )

Great to be back on the Cherries football rollercoaster, albeit just getting on board and strapping ourselves in. So good to see so many familiar faces around D.C. and in the D.C. Lounge. Loads of kids with their parents, hope they can eventually become regulars.

Dean Court itself is having a bit of a makeover. Interiors have been painted, the Sky studio looks to be having a complete refurb', some new pictures going up in the corners of the stands (I'm told ) also all the team photos on the Wall of Fame are being replaced.

The new kit looks great "live" and appears to be popular, judging by the number of them in the crowd.

All in all, a good Saturday afternoon out for myself and the Good Lady, could have been better, could have been worse, that's one of the beauties about going to watch live events. I'm looking forward to attending as many matches as we're able to this season, with as many of you as possible. Having some good times, laughs and banter on the Riverside Rocket. All I can do is get behind Super Scottie Parker and his players : )

Parker says that we are not currently close to any signings. All Tavernier will do at the moment is ease some of the pressure on the Boro midfield

Ive only read what he said, so can’t judge the tone of voice or the question asked for that response but… if you’re in the middle of a negotiation, being overly positive about someone else’s player is never a good look. Come over positive that it’ll definitely happen makes the opposition think that eventually we’ll pay up whatever valuation they’ve put on him.

I have no idea if any of the above fits this exact scenario, just a general musing.
