Monorail!

Post lockdown we get a larger proportion of our food either direct from the producer, or with a much shorter supply chain. So our bread comes from a local bakers, our cheese from a Somerset dairy, a lot of our vegetables from a bloke nearby who has three allotments, soft fruit directly from a local grower, and our free range eggs from a woman who distributes for a local wholesaler.

These aren’t at Lidl prices, but it is usually cheaper than Waitrose or M&S and the quality is very good. Moreover it is satisfying to pay money direct to the producers and not to the big supermarkets or some poncey delicatessen, knowing that locally produced food hasn’t been shipped to Daventry and back.

Monorails make no commercial sense whatsoever. In extreme niche cases they might work, mainly due to terrain or entertainment. But building and maintaining a monorail is one of the most expensive per mile transport options there is.

Disney World makes billions every year but are struggling to maintain their system that is already running trains years after their original lifespan. If they cant afford it...

Darling Harbour in Sydney had a monorail...again, just maintaining it was so expensive they had to take it down.

What next, a Hyperloop connection to Southampton?:arrghh:

A monorail doesn’t suit the Bournemouth vibe.
How about this for a radical proposal ?
Dig a massive diagonal tunnel from the beach up to the outskirts of the town, with underground stations at popular hop off points ( DC being one of course ! ), as a funicular railway. Sustainable and in keeping with the seaside town vibe
Job done ;)

You're talking about BCP council who couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.
Over the years they've had plenty of opportunities to revitalise the Town Centre. Failed miserably.
They have no money.

An example of that is finally ending their commitment to maintain / fund the Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre in Wimborne this spring (It would cost £500K).

Oh well, the population locally isn't increasing.. oh wait.. all the hundreds of new houses going up locally..

Councils countrywide constrained by the Governments budget reductions.

Are you getting your local authorities mixed up? BCP funding a sports centre in Wimborne?
