Post lockdown we get a larger proportion of our food either direct from the producer, or with a much shorter supply chain. So our bread comes from a local bakers, our cheese from a Somerset dairy, a lot of our vegetables from a bloke nearby who has three allotments, soft fruit directly from a local grower, and our free range eggs from a woman who distributes for a local wholesaler.
These aren’t at Lidl prices, but it is usually cheaper than Waitrose or M&S and the quality is very good. Moreover it is satisfying to pay money direct to the producers and not to the big supermarkets or some poncey delicatessen, knowing that locally produced food hasn’t been shipped to Daventry and back.
