Having the three play behind Solanke was very creative in that they all moved around and could all create on the ball. With either a less creative player in that role or sitting further back it does make it a less threatening front line.

That said, it could well be the right call depending how Rotherham set up. I don't know that much about them but if they're vulnerable to midfielders breaking from deep then it could be very effective.
