Scott Parker

Hi all, spoke to mate who works at Fulham. The move has hit a snag as Bournemouth can’t currently afford to pay his wages and the full compo. Fulham are still expecting it to go through, but will likely take a few days. Fulham are already in talks with his replacement…. Make of that what you will
Tell us who the replacement is and we'll take him on and hopefully save some money in the process :p

You joke, but the reason fulham haven’t sacked him is because our tight board don’t want to sack him, knowing there is interest in him from elsewhere….
So your board want to sack him but one of the hold ups on the deal is the amount of compensation Fulham want.

Righttttt.....

No idea how any of this works, but I imagine they look at total compensation. Maybe the issue is not with the 70k pw, but the length of the contract. 2 years vs 4 years is a big amount of money. Personally think 2 years would be appropriate for any new manager. We have two years of parachute payments left, and 2 years is plenty time for a manager to attempt to get us promoted.

You could also offer 2 years + option of 2 more with caveats ie promotion

It’s simple.

Fulham Board Meeting
‘So we are here to discuss changing our manager’
P.A enters room ‘there is a Mr Blake on the line’
Chairman ‘what the man who gave Liverpool 42m for Solanke, Smith and Ibe
P.A. ‘Yes that’s him, he is interested in our manager’
Chairman ‘ok, let’s hang fire on changing our manager for a bit... also can you get Eddie Howes agent on the line... we could come out of this with twice the manager and 6m’

The scary thing is Neil, you are probably spot on .

So no official approach - does that mean negotiations stalled at agent level so can’t be negotiating compensation otherwise latter would be an approach

Mostyn set the deadline of end of this week - does that mean if can’t get their first choice then afcb just go with plan b rather than drag on, in which case presume woodgate

Yes at agent level or similar. Somtimes clubs like to do talks via intermediaries and in a less formal manner. To establish whether its vaguely do-able, talk ballpark terms and gauge the liklihood of completing a deal, before making an official approach. That goes for players or managers. Saves getting knocked back, and means clubs can go on the record saying "no we never approached X" even when they sort of did.

Where the line is crossed into 'tapping up is increasingly unclear! In this case its in both club's interest to test the water before going formal. Fulham may be interested in doing a deal, but they won't want to talk officially about Parker leaving unless they're certain he's off.

Currently if it breaks down both clubs can state no talks were held, even if they kinda were.
