Dan Gosling

I'd rather have gosling in the team than billing.
Gosling can do exactly the same job that Lerma does, the unfortunate thing for him (and us) his that Jeff is tied to 2 and a half more years on a big wage. In terms of Billing, Billing is clearly the better footballer of the two, but he clearly doesn’t give a ****************. So for that reason alone I agree, I’d have had Dan in the team ahead of him too. We learn more and more every week at this level that fight > quality will triumph.

Has looked out of sorts recently when he has got (limited) game time but fondly remember his two goal performance at Coventry to put us top.

Totally underrated whilst at our club. Not given enough chances by Eddie, imo, but he never complained, just got on with being a good professional. We'll miss him

I completely agree with this, fair post! I have seen loads of Watford fans whinging about the signing. I don't get this in my opinion Gosling is a good signing for them. He is hardworking, professional, a great battler, scores a few goals and has shown quality at times, (against Coventry earlier in the season for example). Likelihood is Gosling will be a squad player on a free and his wages won't be too high what's the problem? Watford want more depth in midfield and they could do far worse than Gosling at Championship level.
Admittedly though I assume that 95% of the Watford fans whinging on Twitter have never actually watched Gosling play.

As someone who has been a fan of Dan there's an awful lot of revisionism on this thread.
Can't remember the number of times Gosling has been one step up from Mark Rawlinson according to a lot of posters here.
My view is that although Dan has been a great servant , letting him go now is no disaster. Jeff is not playing well but if he can rediscover his form is a better player than Dan and let's face it Dan is reaching his sell by date

ay.

I think most were hoping for a Capoue type replacement although I see him more as a replacement for James Garner who has gone to Nottingham Forest.

I don't think we'd get a talented player like Capoue was now.

Sounds like rather strangely Chalobah might be going to Newcastle or Leicester so we might be short on midfielders.

Dan turned down Forest.

Exactly you are not getting a player of Capoues calibre in the championship. I Can't see either of those sides being interested in Chalobah enough to offer you a worthwhile fee.

Funnily enough I was chatting to my Dad and brothers about Dan leaving for Watford earlier and my Dad made exactly the same point. I think I agree with it also.

You'd think not - I tend to agree.

Not sure what they see in him.

Particularly Champions league chasing Leicester.

Can Rico be thrown in as well...perhaps a buy one get one free ?
Yeah, I’d cut my losses with Rico as well. A complete liability at the moment. Has always been a worry positionally when he joined, but sort of made up for it as he looked to have a great cross, could get forward and good in the tackle. Now we’ve seemingly coached his ability to cross a football out of him, he just looks like a bad LB?
