Thoughts v Boro

I know what you mean, I'm amazed we're still 2nd 4 points clear with 2 games in hand. It's not the same without Eddie end of the day and most fans will never be as emotionally attached or have that special feeling united as one unless he returns one day. If we do see it out then I think it's mainly because we have a couple of players who have been PL players and know how to just manage the matches with that added experience of facing the best players and learning how they manage out games and although Parker is not crowd pleaser or as smart as Eddie he does also have experience of getting promotion from this league. If we see out though I think next season is going to be embarrassing in the PL, don't really see that point in throwing money at it either, personally rather have some infrastructure or even some phucking fresh paint on the seats but the club will make some bizarre decisions I'm sure with the characters still lurking in the boardroom looking after themselves

Great post mate . Pretty much sums up how a lot of us feel I would imagine .

The ' us' this season to the 'us' that season are worlds apart. I loved every kick of every ball in every game that season. At times this season Ive felt I've just gone through the motions attending the matches and can genuinely say I don't enjoy the football servrd up most of the time
Dean Court was rocking then. It's more of a library now with fire drills in the Ted Shed common place.

The last time a team got promoted in 2nd place with under 80 points was Hull in 2013 with 79 points and I think that was one of the lowest ever. But the way this season has been and everyone feeling pressure it could be close to that 79/80 point total for 2nd. Brentford finished 3rd on 87 last season. This 2nd half season has been quite painful tbh, yes the unbeaten run at start has us in this good position but we have 6 wins in 16 since the calendar year started it's been bad and most of the performances have been uninspiring and without courage we looked content with a draw last 10 minuites today. Alot of tackling talent 0 goals in 3 games it is frustrating.
I totally agree with the sentiment, however your stats are wrong. We have won 7 drawn 4 lost 4, 25 fron 15, play off form. Win on Monday and that would be an 80 point run rate, it just feels worse than it has been in reality.

This. Points wise who knows we might get 90 this year but the style and enjoyment levels are just miles apart.

In 2015 we played flowing football, we had partnerships all over the pitch. We had patterns of play and passing triangles and in a game like yesterday would have been piling forward in the 2nd half, not petering out to a bore draw.

I can genuinely only think of 3 games since Xmas when we've played well both halves - Huddersfield, Birmingham and Bristol City.

Think we need to let go of Eddie. There was no emotional connection when Don Megson was in charge either!

It’ll never be 2014/15 again.

Indeed, Eddie was special. The period was exceptional, anyone who attempted to proclaim otherwise is now getting a very rude awakening and reality check.

It is still possible to appreciate what we had and still enjoy a promotion chase despite the differences.

I know yesterday wasn’t great but I didn’t think it a bad game. The players seem to be putting in a full shift (even though at times there’s not much end product) which is more than can be said for the last season and a half.
Jeff really should have buried that header.

I got great pleasure in watching Cook, his footballing brain, at times, seems to operate a notch above the others on the pitch.

The frustration for us fans, I think, is that we know the potential that the team has, but our consistency in showing it is completely unpredictable!

That team was special for sure and we can’t realistically expect this group to replicate that.

Having said that, we should also not expect the gap in quality of performance between the two groups to be quite so large. Not seen anybody asking us to replicate the 14/15 team, but we should be performing much better than we have been for a while now. It’s not a black and white situation, you can appreciate that it’s not realistic to expect us to reach the 14/15 levels but at the same time realise that the levels we have reached quite frequently this season just haven’t been good enough.

Totally agree and have said as much a fair number of times. Redskins above has nailed it too.

Spot on, exactly how I felt on Friday, no meaningful connection with the manager, team or even the club............

Yes that's a fair point, but he won't be coming back in the near future.

Parker may get us over the line, but if Blake and Demin are serious about survival in the PL he needs to get a golden handshake, and a thanks very much if we go up.

If we are to leave SP in charge with half the promotion riches as a transfer kitty we are doomed.

Much better to pay Parker 2 million, and get someone who knows what they are doing in.

Parker has kept us in the top 3 all season, but if we attack the PL with a transfer kitty, and his tactics we are in serious trouble.

I like SP as a person, not as a manager in the PL.

His signings have been disjointed, his tactics disjointed and I think he has lost the fans as well.

I wonder if fans of other clubs have this so called emotional connection with the club, team and manager?
I would expect most teams supporters would give their right arm to be where we are now.
Our January transfer window was the stuff of dreams for many clubs and a lot of clubs fans live and die without seeing even what we have seen this season.
I still think our Eddie Howe era has made some of us incredibly entitled and has spawned a new style of supporter such as Waz who has never seen the bad times so cannot appreciate the good.

January transfer window was the stuff of dreams for expenditure most would agree.

For effect, it was terrible.

That must surely lie at Parkers feet

Backed financially, with little real outcome.

Let's be honest whatever we think of Parker, there's no way he'll be replaced if he gets us promotion. Personally I don't want to go down the watford path of sacking a manager after a promotion.
I think he deserves his chance to manage his promoted team in the Premier league. Again whoever manages us faces a massive challenge to keep us up.

I was here for the minus 17 season. It’s not about being entitled, it’s about judging us based on what we are producing in relation to where we are right now. This ‘not here for the bad times’ argument is a very lazy one and not very well thought out. What does the fact that we nearly dropped out of the football league in 2009 have to do with the fact that I expect a championship side assembled for around 80m to occasionally have a shot on target in 2022?

There is zero chance of Parker going in the summer, even if we don't go up. May as well accept that now.

I'm not sure I'd be in favour of it either. We have seen what he is aiming for in the Huddersfield and Bristol City matches, but the balance of the squad is a mess.

Add to that, look at the contract situation:

Lerma, Mepham, Solanke, Brooks, Stacey, Kelly, Travers, Smith, Stanislas, Zemura and Anthony all have contracts that expire in 12 months time. We have to be ruthless in dealing with that situation. Anyone that doesn't want to sign an extension is moved on (as long as we can find a buyer) and will need to be replaced. That could mean serious upheaval across the whole squad but sitting on that ticking time bomb of a squad wouldn't be clever.

Yes, I know Smith and Stanislas don't need extensions at this point but they're part of the potential drain on the squad in this time 12 months.

In terms of additions, I've no idea on the Brooks situation but if he's cleared to play next season (and signs an extension) that is an immediate huge fillip for the squad, not least of which because it means we finally have an option that can replace Christie. If he isn't going to be available then a player there has to be signing priority number one.

We'll also need at least one CB. Maybe multiple if Mepham (who really should leave for his own good) and Kelly won't sign extensions.

Getting a new person in to correctly assess who to keep and who to release and put the building blocks in place for a replacement team would be crazy. I know a lot don't like Parker but we've bought a ticket on his bus, we should see where the destination is before jumping off in the middle of the desert.

Can agree and disagree with this sentiment.

Any manager who gets you promoted should be allowed that chance, but it'll undoubtedly end in disaster if we go up.

Momentum usually sees the promoted teams carry that through. Confidence, and belief carries on from the achievement.

If we go up what momentum can we carry forward?

There isn't any.
