Who from?
The people who laughed at Sheff U for signing Mousset but defended all our signings that kept us in the PL in the seasons we stayed up by saying the ends justified the means. Even if those signings were forwards who made no goals and assists when Mousset won quite a few points for the Blades with his goals and assists.

Thats some rewriting of history there.

IIRC the flak you got about Lys was because you were treating his departure as a big loss for afcb, and suggesting he would go on to greater things under Wilder.

It didn't happen, and now he's being given credit for playing 'a part' in the Blades survival. Thats quite a comedown.

He played way more a part in them staying up the year they did than Grabban did the year we signed him back. Which one do some fans judge as a failed signing though? There’s rose tinted glasses and there’s Gucci Rose tinted glasses.

I think you're deliberately ignoring the point. ;-)

Spoke to a smoggy supporter last night and he said we're welcome to him. Didn't rate him at all, or it could've just been a bit of sour grapes as we're taking their star player, who knows?

You've invented these people in your mind. Mousett was a terrible signing for them and there's no requirement for anyone pointing that out to list all of our terrible signings to balance things out. He's their Jordon Ibe, a dreadful signing.

You're both kind of right I think. Mousett started really well for them, which contributed to them staying up, but he went off the boil and in the long run turned out not to be a good signing for them.

He had a Josh McQuoid style purple patch during a run when I don’t think he was ever fit enough to complete 90 minutes and mainly never played over an hour?

He then scored 1 further goal in his next 18 months and eventually left for free. I don’t think many Sheffield United fans would be queuing up to say that Wilder didn’t over pay for him. Which was the attempted joke I was making.

We purchased Ramsdale for £1million then sold him back to them in a deal worth £21millon and then sold them Mousset for in excess of £10million.

Yes. Apparently Eddie and JT really sung Mousset's praises, which encouraged Wilder to buy him.

You were one of the people who said the ends of Grabban signing justified the means because we retained our PL status that year. Chris Wilder stayed up with Mousset who provided goals and assists (unlike Grabban).

Grabban was signed as back up because of all of the injuries, the fact he could cover wide and I suspect because he was relatively cheap due to the sell on fee. He wasn't really required and we eventually made most of our money back on him. I don't think he was a great signing but we definitely needed backup in case of any more injuries. Fortunately we didn't get any.

Benik Afobe, who was signed at the same time as Grabban, was the big money striker comparable to the singing Mousett. He was a limited player but his goals kept us up. I'm sure in your mind Mousett was as good for them as Afobe was for us but that's simply not the case.

In your opinion. The season we signed Afobe to keep us up he scored 4 goals. The season they signed Mousset to keep them up he scored 6 goals. You might not have rated him but Eddie Howe and Chris Wilder did and I would back their judgement in spending a combined 15m on him over yours, no offence.

He has gone off the rails since, no doubt, but that wasn’t the case when these discussions were happening.

Lol, you slagged Howe right off for selling him, and for most of his signings over the years. Afobe signed in January and played half the games Mousett did that season. I say half but obviously he was actually fit enough to play 90 minutes, which Mousett has never managed because he's sh*t.

We made our money back on Benik, how much did Sheffield United get for Mousett again?

Anyway I'll have to revise my opinion on Jordon Ibe because both Howe and Klopp rated him at one point and they know more about football than me.

It depends on whether you are revising your opinion on his potential or the outcome. The Jordan Ibe that played against us for three different sides anyone would have signed. We did pay too much though but that was Blake having his trousers pulled down by inexperience and the seduction of dealing with Liverpool.;)

Afobe got 4 in half a season, Moussett 6 in a whole season.
The season Moussett scored 6 Sheff Utd stayed up by a margin of 20 points, so he hardly saved them.
Never rated him, bit of an overpriced prima donna. You only have to look at his number of sub appearances to know he was never fit enough or able to work enough for a regular 90 mins. Daylight robbery when we ripped Sheff off, shame !!!!

He did pay too much for Ibe Neil, the point people are making is that Mousett was their Jordon Ibe, an absolute shocker of a signing where they had their pants completely pulled down and we robbed them. Obviously that won't be down to Blake though will it, it'll probably be Eddie's dog or someone who was responsible because it was a good thing.

Mousset was instrumental his first season in scoring 6 PL goals, tearing some teams (inc Man U) apart and therefore a main reason they got another 120m tv money. Solanke cost twice as much, scored 3 goals and his team got relegated (three years later he got his team promoted and access to that 120m in the interests of fairness)

I think you are being very selective in what you choose to pick. Moussets laziness and attitude took over and his career has gone South metaphorically and literally but overall what he helped achieve in his first season means he justified his fee.

Similarly everyone laughed at Villa for what they paid for Mings and tried picking holes at him as he played for England. Sad really. We’d like him now wouldn’t we!
