Looks like Reading had a decent sized sell-on fee so that be what bumped the price somewhat, 20-25%

I'd say he is worth a gamble but not an extortionate gamble. I've always rated him, as have the family up there. I thought they were stupid to let him go. Are we stupid to buy him for 5 million, probably not. For 10 million plus, possibly if he doesnt grow.

Set a cap of 5 million and hopefully I'm right. If he joins and does keep progressing, great. I'm fearful that paying any more and expecting a diamond may be too much out of someone who has succeeded in Leagues One and Two but nothing above

What went wrong for your club?

It seem to be doing well under Madejski.

When this article was written our club were in League 1 and your team were on their way to the Premier League.

Just shows how fortunes change in football, so appreciate the good times while you have them. Just look what happened to Pompey.

I remember it well. I did in fact go to more Cherries games that season Reading games as I have done since I moved down here.

Madejski sold out to the wrong man. Zingarevich was never as rich as it was made out he was. It was his dad who had the money and his dad who pulled the plug.

The club also had one of the most undesirable people in football on the board in Chris Samuelson. Basically the club loaned and loaned to bankroll the owners wishes and when the club got relegated, the mess become evident. Zingarevich disappeared and in his place it was believed come a winding up order from HMRC which caused the sale of Adam Le Fondre and saved the club from a points deduction which would have relegated them.

Infrastructure wise they are still able to expand and expand and expand that stadium and have just got a new training ground and do have people with actual real money now but have struggled to clear off the aftermath of those issues.

In short, they are a big-ish ex-Premier League side with lots of baggage. Which is the same for about 19 of the 24 teams in that league
 
The English leagues are packed with clubs that went into free-fall at some time due to bad ownership. We are extremely lucky to have such a level headed main owner in Max. Long may it continue.

He only ever said that we were interested in Dan James though, never that he had agreed to sign. There is quite a big distinction there.

If they said they want £7m then it is good negotiating I guess... We'll never know the ins and outs. Perhaps it's £2.5m with £1.5m addons. The news outlets always just report the potential final figure like they did with Brad Smith at £5-6m even though it will never get to that amount.
